This anâ€" nouncement follows a pressing invitaâ€" tion given by Hon. J. E. Perrault, Queâ€" bec minister of highways and mines, to Balmer Neilly, president of the inâ€" stitute, and the committee in charge of the annual convention. On the attractive display window cards, announcing the Legion Halâ€" lowe‘en Frolic in the McIntyre Recreaâ€" tion hall, Schumacher, on Tuesday, Oct. 31st mention is made of "Novelties Gaâ€" lore." It was first suggested that one or two specialty acts be put on for the event. This however, has been found impossible and the committee in charge of the big event have, decided that every one who attends will be "dolled up" for the occasion, so they make the anâ€" nouncement that those not arriving in costume will be given fancy paper hats, Dominic Shayer, of Capreol, owes his life to a metal button on his smock. He was in his car on his way to do some partridge hunting when his gun accidentally dicharged. The bullet struck the metal button and was deâ€" flected. It did strike his chin and fractured the bone but struck no vital spot, and Mr. Shayer is expected to recover fully. Had the bullet not been turned from its path by the button it is likely that Mr. Shayer would have lost his life. This incident may tempt some smart aleck to suggest that the brass buttons on the rear of the new polics uniforms are bullet deflectors. VALIDITY OF WILL DECLARED BY COURT OF APPEAL, OCT. 11TH METAL OF On Saturday evening, Oct. 14th, in the local Moose hall, the Timmins Chapter of the Women of the Moose hall a reception in honour of their neighbour Women Chapters of Ansonâ€" ville and Cochrane. The hostesses reâ€" ceived many wellâ€"merited compliments on the very attractive banquet provided A speech of welcome was made by G. N. of the Mocse, Mr. Odigers, and a toast was given to the hostesses by Mr. J. Smith, of Ansonville. The Ansonâ€" ville Senior Regent, Mrs. Olson, graceâ€" fully rendered thanks and appreciation for the cordial invitation on behalf of her chapter, while the Timmins Senior Regent, Mrs. Harrison, responded with warm words of welcome and thanks for the cordial response. The meanest thief in months was reported by Mayor John A. Jagoe of St. Thomas, says The Vankleek Hill Review. The thief stole the entire supâ€" ply of wood furnished by the City Reâ€" lief Department to an aged deaf and dumb woman of the city. The thief took advantage of the woman‘s affiicâ€" tions to clean out ‘the woodshed. Ten hours after receiving the report Mayor Jagoe awoke to discover that thieves had visited his home during the night and taken the money left in milk botâ€" tles. Virtually every house on Roseâ€" berry Place, where the mayor lives, was visited during the night and milk bottles robbed.
