Neable got the decision ! by jabbing McNulty at ease in the are | early part of the fight. It was a popuâ€" lar verdict. Neable was floored twice he in this bout but his clever fighting gave him enough margin to win, Frenchy Bergeron got a soft decision !over Paul Lemay in the first bout of ren | the evening. Referee Arrons didn‘t apâ€" 33p | pear to use good judgment in this fight ~â€"~ | when he gave it to Bergeron. The least he could have done was to make it a \draw. Bergeron was outboxed in the our | first two rounds and didn‘t put anyâ€" 1ce, i thing over Lemay in the last two. 126. Those two popular youngsters Kid ave | Robitaille and Young Dempsey opened the show again. It was a draw. Neiâ€" ‘ther one of the lads has been beaten |\ yet. Although his TL ! fighting wasn‘t up to its usual highf | standard, it was good enough to satisfy . ‘all. The reason was discovered after, Te? | the fight when it was learned that he ird | took this fight on a week‘s notice. He ..,; had no chance to train and went into | the ring with less than two day‘s trainâ€" 533 | ing in his system. It must also be reâ€" membered that his last fight was early â€"â€" ‘last year when he‘fought big Joe )N | Thomas here: That‘s a long layoff for ‘a fighter and he could hardly be exâ€" rtâ€" | pected to be at his best. Bill has been ecen fighting for a long time in Timmins ind | and Kirkland Lake, and is worthy of a as better spot than a preliminary. The C.| boxing fans here know he‘s good and has | a lot of them would like to see him in a onâ€"| feature bout here. After the fight last | Monday he challenged Willie Stevens erâ€"ito a 10â€"round fight as a return enâ€" oss| gagament and promised that he would )isâ€" | be in the best of condition for it. Roy Hamilton challenged BRert Dempâ€" aid sey from the ring this time and is the| eager to have the fight. If Dempsey will : shows up it should be a humâ€"dinger JWS ‘H. Although Stevens appeared to get the worst of this round he was the fresher man when they finished. Stevens was floorâ€" d twice in the last round but was fightâ€" ing nicely when the «bell stopped â€" it. Stevens got the unpopular decision. Alfiec JIJohnson repeated his victory over sonny Casey of Kirkland Lake. Casey started by rushing Alfic from the start, but he couldn‘t get inside of Johnson‘s guard. Casey had a clear margin in the first round. In the seâ€" :ond round Casey was knocked down for a nine count and had no sooner got up than he was down again. Another lady who has been in Timâ€" mins about a year wanted transportaâ€" tion for herself and her son so that they might go back to Montreal where they had friends. It was suggested that the town might save money by advancing the fares and thus avoiding the cost of the mother and son going on direct reâ€" lief. "We certainly can‘t afford to ship back all who come here,‘ ‘said the mayor. The mayor also pointed out that they had arranged their own transportation to come here and they and their friends should arrange the financing of the return trip. " jredge out iteps to avi The comm zate and s A man who has been a citizen of Timmins for a number of yéears was present at the council meeting to see if he could get any help in reference to an operation necessary for the removal of a growth on his face. The doctor said such an operation was necessary if the man were not to lose his health and perhaps his life. He would be only a few days in the hospital and the total cost was expected to be around $50.00. A friend who spoke to the counâ€" cil in the matter said that the man had had hard luck. He had owned property in town, but had been forced to sell this property on account of his health and now the money was all gone. The man, however, had not been on, relief to date, and if the council gave the assistance asked the money would be repaid when times became better. In the course of the discussion it developed that when this man was asked to turn in his liquor permit he had first evaded the course of the discussion it developed that when this man was asked to turn in his liquor permit he had first evaded the issue and then claimed he had lost the permit. His friend explained that the permit had been lost when the man was picking berries. The permit was in the man‘s coat pocket and the coat had been laid down. Later the coat could not be located. It might have been stolen or simply the man could not locate the place he had laid the coat. In any case there was not much on the peéermit. The matter was reâ€" ferred to the relief committee to inâ€" vestigate and see what the operation would really cost.
