Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines Limited ~30â€" NOTICE OF SALE OF CHATTEL (Mechanic‘s Lien) Assistantâ€"Treasurer Work on the Tourist Camp and Park A letter from the Canadian Legion called attention of council to the fact that there was no lifeâ€"saving equipâ€" men at the river and that this might mean loss of life. MayJor Drew said that while the Mattagami was ouisiGe the town limits, and so the town was not responsible in the matter, the counâ€" cil last year as a matter of care for human life had provided lifeâ€"belts at the river. â€".Town Engineer MacLean explained the absence of the lifeâ€"belts at the present time by stating they had been stolen. A place had been erected for the holiding of the lifeâ€"belts and they had been duly put in place with ropes attached <ready for use. Three times the ropes had been deliberately cut off and carried away, and the last time the lifeâ€"belts had been stolen and so had followed the ropes.:. On the sugâ€" gestion of Councilior Richardson, it was decided to secure ancther couple of lif{feâ€"belits and leave them at Leo Masâ€" cloli‘s swimming pool at the river in The matter of a building in fire limit A that had been moved and then work stopped on itâ€"was brought before counâ€" cil. Town Engingeer MacLean explainâ€" ed that the building had been moved and some work done on it without any building permit being obtained. He had explained to the owner that on acâ€" count of the building not being up to the specifications required for fire limit A it would be necessary for ;her to secure special permission from the council before a permit could be issued. Work had been stopped on the buildâ€" ing in the meantime. The work had been let by contract: and the mayor said the contractors were threatening to sue the lady for the whole contract price because of the stopping of â€" the work. Councillor G. W..Parsons exâ€" plained that the building in its present position was too close to another house and might be properly described as a fire trap. After some discussion the matter was left t> the decision of the fire and light committee. . should prevent inferior and fake shows. in the boxing and wrestling lines. In comparing the collections of taxes in 1932 and 1933, the mayor noted that taxes were coming in well this year, there being about $400.00 more in taxes collected to date than up to the same time last year. A lady in town wrote the council comâ€" plaining that she had bought a lot s2ld for taxes and found that there was no building cn the property. It had been represented to her that there was small house on the Ilot. â€" Councillor Massie said that he had bought a Ilot under similar conditions only â€"to find when he went to view the property that the house had been carried away bodily. The lady asked for her money back and council thcught she was entitled to this if the facts were as stated. The cirâ€" cumstances are to be investigated and adjustment made in this case. beaches, and those not complying are to be sent away. As the mayor pointed out if breaches of decency and taste were allowed the tendency would be for things to get worse. An owner of property complained that he was asked to pay water rates evaded by a tenant. It was pointed out that the water rates are charged against the property and the bills are only sent to the tenants as a matter of conveniâ€" ence, the owner being responsible. A byâ€"law to regulate boxing and wrestling bouts in Timmins was given the required readings and duly passed. This byâ€"law provides that n> boxing or wrestling bouts are to be staged in Timmins without a license first being obtained. A fee of $10.00 is to be charged for the license. This fee is payable in advance. A penalty of at least $10.00 and costs is provided for any breach of this byâ€"law. It was exâ€" plained that the idea is to prevent unâ€" desirable affairs in the line of boxing and wrestling being staged here and to give the town proper control of these events. It was made plafim by the counâ€" cil that there was no desire to disâ€" courage proper events under local ausâ€" pices. Some of the councillors wanted local affairs of this kind to be exempt from the lcense fee but it was pointed out that discrimination of this kind could not be provided for in the byâ€"law When attenticn of the council was callâ€" ed to the fact that two separate events, one a boxing and the other a wrestling event, had already been advertised, and it would hardly be fair to bring these under the license fee without any preâ€" liminary notice, it was decided to have the byâ€"law take effect on and after August lIst. After that date all boxing and wrestling events must be held unâ€" der license. It will be in the power of the ccuncil to refuse a license to any event not considered worthy, and this On the suggestion ¢of the mayor it was decided to declare Monday, Aug. "th, as civic holiday in Timmins. A refund was authorized for 1932 taxes on some property vacant during the year. Byâ€"laws were passed in reference to agreements between the town of Timâ€" mins and the township of T:sdale reâ€" garding annexation of Gillies Lake townsite and part of Moneta and in respect to the supply of water in the meantime until the annexations are completed. There was also similar agreement in reference to Rochester Heights tcwnsite. Phe second match between the Kiâ€" wanisâ€"McIntyre Mine and the Hollinger was played last ‘evening, there being some fifty golfers taking part. The weather was the very best, and after some nine holes of golf the party. enâ€" joyed an excellent dinner at the club house after which the usual sing song was held. The demonstrations were in charge of Mrs. M. Barrett, head of the Home Service Dept of the Canadian General Electric. very informative and helpful demonstrations of new menus and new cooking methods. Her démonstration of the value of the automatic control on electric ovens was particularly inâ€" teresting featur2. Her plans indicated how to saveâ€"time and effort in cooking and still secure even better results than heretofore. Her addresses gave conâ€" vincing proof of the value of modern kitchen equipment, particularly in the electrical line. Some local people are scratching their heads. It hasn‘t missed a day since St. Swithâ€" in‘s day with its rain that at least a little rain has not Tallen sometime within the twentyâ€"four hours. A quiet but very pretty wedding took place on Saturday, Junre 22nd, at St. Matthew‘s Anglican Church, Timmins, when two of Timmins popular young people were united in the holy bonds of matrimoney, Canon R. 8. Cushing officiating. The happy couple were Miss Mary Hogg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hogg, late of Timmins but now residing at Lindale, Lancashire, Engâ€" land, and Mr. Joseph Jago, son of Mr. A. Jago. of St. Austel, Cornwall. The bride looked charming in a dress of shell pink organdie and carried a bouâ€" quet of roses and baby breath. The matron of honour was Mrs. A. Newâ€" ton, of Hamilton, sister of the bride, who wore a dress of lemon crepe and corsage bouquet of roses. Mr. H. Parâ€" nell, acted as best man. The bride was given in marriage by Mr. W. A. Devine. After the ceremony the guests assemâ€" bled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Devine, where the wedding feast was served. Later a reception was held in honour of the happy pair. The many beautiful gifts testified to the popularity of the young couple and the high reâ€" gard in which they are held. The bride is well known in town and district, having been on the staff of the Hollinger Stores for a number of years, and a popular and energetic worker in Anglican church circles esâ€" pecially among the young people. A sad accident occurred on Thursday last through which Rolland Brien, aged 22 yeartrs, and living at 151 Avenue Road lost his life.!‘ He was sawing woâ€"d with a machine put up just over the second bridge from town over the Mattagami. It is thought that the log jammed the saw, but in any case the frame broke and the saw flew out of the machine striking the young man on his head and cutting the whole top of his head off. The ctroner was notified of the death and investigated the circumâ€" stances finding an inquest unnecessary as the facts of the case were plain. The young man cwned the sawing outâ€" fit himself, Aifter the accident it was found .not to.be in the best. of condiâ€" tion, though this was not apparent preâ€" vicusly thcugh the equipment was old. Rolland Brien was a native of Quebec, but had lived in Timmins for some four For four days last week. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, free cooking demonstrations were held at the Northern Ontario Power Company‘s store at Timmins.
