The funeral of the late John McLean, who died last week at his tent up the river, was held on Sunday to the Church of the Nativity where requiem mass was said. Interment was made at Timmins cemetery. The very large attendance at the funeral and the proâ€" fusion of floral tributes spoke of the esteem and regard in which the late Mr. McLean was held. He was one of the best known and most popular : of the oldâ€"time prospectors of the Nornth. Both had the makings of dangerous fires but were kept in the small fire stage. One call was at 12.10 p.m. May 29th from Box 64 to 80 Way avenue, cwned and occupiled by Geo. Watkins. Some grease on the stove boiled over and the fire caught on some clothes and the walls, About $50.00 damage was done before the fire was extinguished. The loss wos covered by insurance. At 10 am. on May 31st, the firemen had a phone call to 217 Maple street, south, owned by ~Mrs.â€" Vaocmno,Aand occupied by Geo. Word received some days ago by TENDERS FOR COAL Re Joseph Connarley of tender with specifications and by using the men from the Dome it is hoped that the Dome may become interested enough to consider putting a team in the field next year, thus addâ€" ing another contender in the race for championship of the North. very well pleased with the showing made by the players at the practices held so far, and while the team may not show up to the best advantage for the first few games until the players get used to playing together as a unit, it is felt that the other teams will learn that Timmins is a real contender beâ€" fore the season is very far advanced. It should be specially interesting to watch the Timmins team this season for the men in charge are trying to prove to the fans that there is no neâ€" cessity for Timmins to import players to put a good team in the field. Practically all the men in the Timâ€" mins uniform this year will be well known to the fans, as the following lineâ€"up will show. For the pitching staff there will five men, all of whom will give a good acâ€" count of themselves, L. Chambers, who did good work in the 1932 season is a rightâ€"hander who can take good care of himself under any circumstances on, the mound, and he swings a mean bat. Lefty O‘Donnell, who has pitched some fine bail in the North, having played with the McIntyre team, and also with Timmins last year, has speed to spare and will no doubt turn out some nice efforts. Danny Barton, the small man, with the big break should surprise some of the opposing batters. He uses the right in the right manner. Lefty Darden will be new to the fans here but he will prove his right to toss the sphere. Anotherâ€"good player on the team is Davis, who gave a good account of himâ€" self last year and won general approval. Johnnie Roberts will be back in the game this year and Buster Brooks will cover lot of territory in the garden. Donovan is another boy who learned his baseball with the Timmins Juniors and Dick Dainton looks like a ball player, especially when he starts to swing his war club. Downie, who reâ€" presents the Quaker Oats Co., makes his headquarters in town, and can prove by his efforts that he has played the game before. For catchers, there are two. Oliver Ruan, with the Canada Packers, looks as though he knew his baseball and may do a lot of damage with the hicâ€" kory. R. Lortie needs no introduction to Timmins fans and he may be able to.carry his hockey reputation into the baseball setting. He knows too what the bat is for. Thomas, of South Porcupine, is still going strong and his iron wing should be an asset to the team. The other Thomas, from the Dome, will ‘be available for first base. In fact he looks good in any infield posiâ€" And, boy, can he.clout.them!. i At second, it will be up to B. La.- fiamme or Dutch Heximer. These boys play against each other on the ice, but will be teamâ€"mates on the diamond. A good display of senior league ball is expected ithis year with the same clubs contending as were in the league last jyear. The MciIntyre team, the E. O. B. A. champions, are somewhat stronger than ever, with the addition of three or four new faces, and accordâ€" ing to reports Kirkland Lake is out for blood, with a lineâ€"up that looks like a million dollars on paper. e schedule given in The Advance some weeks ago will be carried out. Wagner, of the Dome, and L. Roâ€" maldi, of Timmins, should take care of the short stop position with Barton at third to fill the bill as well. some weeks ago will be carried out. Games start at 4.30 p.m. W. MciIntyre will be the umpire, with J. Scully and W. H. Burns to umpire It is interesting and pleasing to note that the Timmins Seniors this year are sponsoring a Junior team with the idea of developing and training local talent for future use in the sentor team. 6. _F\ Baker, . travelling passe@r agent of the Canadian National Railâ€" ways, with headquarters at North Bay, was visitor to Timmins last week on The executive of the local club are There is only one FLY‘TOX % Do not accept substitubes ~ Klur MOSQ‘-“ Meet ‘the mosqguito jnvasion with FLYâ€"TOX. The late Mr. Aide, who was a cageâ€"tender at the McIntyre, was found dead in the cage on Tuesday.
