Bol H other roads in the North. ‘Ihere were the suggestions of boasts for being the first to go by motor from one place to another. There were touching tales of trucks and cars being stalled in this strip of road or in that. All these inâ€" cidents deserve condemnation. The present is a time when trucks should keep off the roads as much as possible. Great injury may be done to the roads at the present moment by heavy loads in particular. The provincial police were busy last week checking up the wéights carried by trucks in the disâ€" trict. In past years The Advance has urged the fullest coâ€"operation with the authorities in conserving the roads of the district. This year, however, it is very diffcult to see how the Governâ€" ment can have the nerve to lecture the public on helping preserve the roads when its own announced policy is to let the roads go to ruin. If the Governâ€" ment prosecutes anyone for misuse of the roads leading to damage, there will be public demand for some action against the Government for its deliberâ€" ate purpose to cause more loss and damage to the roads of the North than all the trucks and cars that ever were MRS. 0. The fuâ€" ture cost of repairing such a wasteful blunder is appalling. In the meantime the loss and danger to the people, not only of the North, but of all Ontario, should be considered. It may be taken as a fact that no Government can get away with anything as wasteful and extravangent as the idea proposed. It would mean nothing more nor less than the abandonment by the Government of the roads built at considerable exâ€" pense and so necessary to the progress of the province. In the district newspapers last week there were the usual reports of early trips over the Ferguson highway and cther roads in the North. There were the suggestions of baasts for being the 11 pc ‘andchikiren living, whille Mr. nburg has three brothers and sters, all residing in Nova Scot Why Expect Public Thought for Roads?
