Mascioli, 77 Third avenue, and before it was extinguished damage was done to the extent of $1,800.00. The building was damaged to some extent though the firemen did splendid work in preventing the spread of the flames, but the chief loss was through the inâ€" jury to the furniture and furnishings. The alarm was turned in at 1.55 a.m. from Box 31 by Councillor A. P. Dooâ€" ley who noticed the smoke while passâ€" ing. The fire had some headway when discovered and was taking a firm grip of the basement when the firemen arrived. The origin of the fire is not known, everything having been all right a short time before when the caretaker of the building made his rounds. The loss is fully covered by insurance, there being $9,500.00 on building and furniture, the house and furnishings being very valuable. The damage done by smoke and heat to the beautiful furnishings was a material part of the loss. The firemen had two other calls durâ€" ing the past week. One of these was telephone call at 6.55 a.m. Nov. 19th to 3 Eim streset for a chimney fire. No damage done. The other was also a telephone call at 5.55 a.m. on Nov.: 23rd to 85 Balsam street south, where stoveâ€" pipes and chimney were on fire but the blaze was extinguished with no damage done. J [## B}.
