McDowell Motors Lowest Prices Months Transportation for P.O. Box 223 Small Down Payment Many Makes and Models to Choose from Renting a House Bought, Under a Town Tax Sale A reader of The Advance has asked for information in regard to the dispoâ€" sition of rent received from a house bought under a tax sale. It seems that the other day there was a strenuous argument in the matter between some friends and they wished a decision on the question. It would seem that one side. had the idea of fairness largely on its side, while the other opinion was that which coincided with the law in the matter. Enquiry at the town office here brings the information that in case a house is sold for taxes the owner at the time of the sale has a year to redeem it; in fact he has thirteen months to do so. He can redeem it by paying the amount given for the house at the time of the tax sale, plus ten per cent. for the first twelve months, and fifteen per cent. for the extra month. In case the house is rented during the year, the net amount from rent must be returned to the owner of the house if he redeems the property. The idea is apparently that if the property is redeemed the man buying it at the time of the tax sale is to receive only ten per cent. on the price he paid. In case the man buying a house at a tax sale lives in it himself, the original owner is not entitled to any rent when it is redeemed. â€"Also, if the tenants in the place during the year or part of the year fail to pay rent and rent cannot be collected from them, there is no allowance returnable when the property is redeemed. The purpose of the law apparently is to prevent the purchaser of property at a tax sale from making an undue amount on the deal at the expense of the original owner if the property is redeemed. * e Mrs. W.
