On Monday night the Engineers met the Mill and came out on the higher side of the 8 to 7 score. A. Briden was umpire, Brodks for bases. Longworth and Rudd were the battery for the Mill, McCaffrey and Fell (then Sullivan) for the Engineers, Too many errors cost the Mill their game. The Mine is leadâ€" ing the league, Engineers second, with the Mill tailing. H. Doran made the only run of the first innings, Parsons for the Mill going down as he reached for the haven of home. Another man with rooming house on First avenue complained that his revenue was lowered, now that so l many rooming houses had been built on Second avenue. His taxes were also confirmed. But it was realized by the council that Second avenue west, in Schumacher, was now practically a business section and would have to be assessed accordingly. Many of the soâ€" called boarding houses there were realâ€" ly hotels doing business on a larger scale than some of the Pirst avenue hotels. It looked as though peojle had gone into these areas of loweyr assessâ€" ment and were carrying on business the same as in the original businass | section. McIntyre road was reported : by the engineer to be practically finishâ€" ed except for the placing of a few loads of fine gravel to make a suitable walk | for pedestrians. The council all agreed ! that the road at present most urgently 'needing repair was the Dome rorad. ‘X short spell of warm weather would allow this to be done much more eMâ€" | clently for the type of repairing needed but it is to be started within the week The portion from the railway crossing to town is to receive special attention | for repairs. At Gillies Lake the better ‘half of the work is now done but it was thought advisable to change the 'road bed along Toke street so that 'trafiic would not be immediately over the water line as it has been in the past. The Coniaurum road and culvert were also discussed. Gold Centre lights l are still delayed owing to no clear unâ€" derstanding as to where poles can be ! placed.
