Furze join in thanking all who helipâ€" ed them in their time of sorrow, at the death of Cedric; their sustaining symâ€" pathy and generous help is gratefully ayripreciated. ° â€"44 For further particulars and condiâ€" tions of sale apply to Timmins Business College Last week H. C. Garner, of the Emâ€" p{royment Bureau, was able to place fifty more men at work, this number being sent to Kapuskasing to cut pulp for the Spruce Falls Cc. The fifty men left here on Thursday, some of the needy ones being outfitted by the town cr by friends before leaving here. A grcup of men, chiefly Finlanders, who have kz:n living just outside the town, refused to accept this work on the plea that they did not know how to cut wood. Ii is surmised that some cf these men did not give the correct reaâ€" son for refusing to accept the work. It is thought that the real reason was that they did not desire that sort of work but preferred to wait and see if thse town or cther authsorities would them with focod and shelter without the nezsessity for them working. In other words they were banking on something like the communist demands for $25.00 a week in cash for those not employed. Of ccurse, they are going to be disâ€" appcinted, and in addition no one is gcing to worry any as to how they may get alcng after this. It showd be notâ€" ed, however, that the majority of the men out employment are only to anxious to accept anything in the line of work that offers, and there are few that turn down any kind of a job that offers. There are still several hundred men in the town who are out of work but it is hoped that <emplecyment will be previded scon fcor them or other work offering. Thcose going out of town t; accept jobs are in many cases hayâ€" inz their railroead fares advanced by the town, the understanding, of course, being that the money will be refunded when the men receive their puy. Proposed New Town Hall Discussed at Town Council (Continued from Page One) be started until after the other reiief work had been approved and the grants for such work promised by the governâ€" ment. When the other work had been approved and the government‘s share promised, the question of the proposed town hall buiiding might be considered. Then it would be a matter of financâ€" inz. The government had offered five years ago to bear half the cost and they might do this, or better, now. The proposed new municipal building would nct directly employ as much common labour as other relief work fYanned. Incidentally the mayor mentioned that the tile for the sewers planned to be put in here this year were being made in town and this meant the employâ€" ment of a number of men. Work on the town hall would mean the purchase of m#terial, thus giving work to men in octher parts of Canada, as well as giving employment here. Another Fifty Men Sent to Kapuskasing Thursday Mayor Drew pointed out that The Advance was mistaken in suggesting last week that the building as shown in ie plans kindly sup;Â¥lied by Hillâ€" Clarkâ€"Francis would be crowded in beâ€" tween the present building and the post ofilce. ie plans were for a building that would leave a laneway alongside the post office and then occupy the space up to the fire hall. 11 PINE STREET NORTH 17% WILSON AVE. FIRE AT TTMMINS DAIRY CAUSES DAMAGE OF $50.00 FINNISH NEWSPAPER EDTTOR VISITS PORCUPINE CAMP One of the specially interesting eviâ€" dences of the way flowers are growing in this North, this fall was given yesâ€" terday by the regeipt of a small box of flowers by mail. They came from Kaâ€" puskasing and had been picked in the garden of Mrs. E. S. Noble, formerly of Timmins. The flowers included roses, marigolds and pansies, and they had bzen picked in the garden on Oct. 26th. They were particularly fine specimens for October flowers grown outside. The post song of the "fAlowers that bloom in the spring! Tra, La!" A modern poet would ve something worth while to sing about in the beauâ€" tiful flowers blcooming coutside in the gardens of the North Land in the latâ€" ter days of October, ne_:g door to NJâ€" vember, as it were. This is not the first year where the weather has been so mild and froests so few that fowers continue to blcomn s late as this in the year, but it may be admitted that North Land weather every year is not so propitious at the end of October and so the mailter is worthy of nots. Those who imagine the North Land as covered beneath a thick blanket snow for seven or eight months in the year should note that garden flowers are ccmmon in bloom and beauty in this North this year. Dr. A. S. Porter and Chief H. Jones are running a friendly contest as to which can pick the latest rose from the garden this yaar. Mrs. T. Thomas, Maple street, ncorth, showed The Advance a beautiful pink rose picked in the garden on Oct. 28th. At the Hayden Gold Mines they have roses in blsom, and beauties they are, too, and sweet pj>as, not to menâ€" tion pansies. The pansies ssem !o grow in spring or fall despite weather or climate.
