Word from Abitibi Canyon last week told of the death of S. Stanklewich, a clish workman, who was killed inâ€" stantly when he was caught in a flow of concrete at the construction work in progress. Details of the accident are not available but from the desâ€" patches sent to the Canadian Press from Cochrane, it would appear that Stanklewich was accidentally caught by a flow of concrete that was being pourâ€" ed through a chute from the construcâ€" tion bridge that spans the river. He was working on the lower receiving hopy:>r through which the concrete for the lining of the water tunnel passes. Cochrane. on March 14th, just three mantha after the accident which resulted in his inâ€" juries. He was hurt at Abitibi Canyon on Dec. 14th, when he was hit by some sliding rock in the construction work there. As soon as it was possible to get the injured man to Cochrane he was taken to the hospital there and everyâ€" thing possible was done for him, but despite the best of care and attention his injuries were so serious that his reâ€" covery was impcossible. It ‘wasy just three months from the time of the acâ€" cident to the time of the injured man‘s death. Uvaranmaa was a native of Finland, where his wife still resides. He was 55 years of age at the time of his death. He has a son residing at Copper Cliff, near Sudbury. The funâ€" eral took rface at Cochrane, interment being made in the Protestant cemetery there. In the accident at Abitibi Canâ€" yon Uvaranmaa was badly crushed by the fall of rock in the accident. It was not expected that he could live for more than a few hours, but he survived for so long that there was a slight hope that his remarkable constitution might give him a long chance of recovery, and no effort or expense was spared in this endeavour.
