Dated the 11th day of November, 1930 I. McIVOR, â€"4G Assistantâ€"Treasurer GEQLOGIST OPTIMISTIG OK NORTH OIL DISGOVERIES Montreal Expert Views the Oil Lands North of Cochrane and is Duly Impressed by the Geology Along the Missinaibi Kiver. It is some time since any reference has ben mads to the possibilities of oil along the Missinaibi river, north of Cochrane. The chances of there being important oil possibilities there was so Timmins, Ont strong some time ago that at least one | company was formed to develop the field and the Ontario and Dominion Governments both were interested and geologists went to the field. For some reason or another Toronto does not apâ€" pear‘to be especially interested in the-‘ oil possibilities of this part of the North, though there is all sorts of interest in the Queen City in regard to coal, ching | clay and other minerals. The interest | in oi seems to be keen enough in North Bay where one oil compuny has besn formed and also in Montreal, the latter [ city sending several experts to look over | the country north of Cochrane with the idea of deciding on its possible oili }chances. Some months ago men from | \ Montreal spent some time in the far' ncorth leo‘sing over the James Bay‘ area for oil possibilities. They were reported as finding the possibilities to be very strong probabilities. Last week J. Ruby, a wellâ€"known prospector, whose home is at Cochrane, and John B. DeMille, a wellâ€"known consulting geologist, of Montreal, returned to Cochrane, after an inspection of the Ruby Oil and Coal Syndicate claims along the Missinaibi river. The Ruby Oil and Coal Syndicate has its head office in North Bay and is understood to be financed chiefly by North Bay ;bo 14 years. Any home desiring to adopt a youngster should have their clergyman write A. G. Carson, Supt. Children‘s Aid, Timmins, Ont 44t.1f men. Mr. DeMille went on from Cochâ€" rane to North Bay, to discuss his visit to the claims with members of the synâ€" dicate, of which C. S. McGaughey is the secretary. Mr. DeMille is reported as being very optimistic regarding the prospects for the field along the Misâ€" sinaibi. It is further understood that Mr. DeMille recommended that more exploration work be carried on this winter. According to the information at hand the two claims staked by Mr. Ruby, one in McBrien township and the other just north of Hambly township, both show extensive deposits of lignite, but the syndicate is more interested in the indication of oil than in the coal. With the Ontario government developâ€" ing the Onakawana deposits at Blackâ€" smith Rapids, coupled with the distance of the Ruby syndicate claims from the railway, the lignite deposits are of little commercial value for the time being, but oil discoveries may be very valuable. Word from Cochrane this week points out that Mr. Ruby, the originator of the scheme, who staked all the claims and did the field work, has been prosâ€" pecting the north since the end of the m CE C n d d the potential value of his claims, allowed the assessment work to . The Onâ€" tario government stepp in immeâ€" diately, and has carried on the explorâ€" e s e Vn T war. ï¬e staked the Blacksmith Rapids lignite field in 1926, but not realizing ation of the area since. Where the grilling on the Onakawana development is bemg done now is the onginal claim of Jeack Ruby.
