The Porcupine Agricultural Fair was favourea with ideal weather and there was the usual big crowd attending. The displays in flowers, vegetables and women‘s work was exceptional but the poultry and pet stock exhibit was much smaller than usual. There was also not very much competition in the liveâ€" stock classes except among the horses. The flowers and vegetables were quoted as being the equal in quality of that seen at Toronto Exhibition. Her pansy collection which took first prize had specimens two and one half inches across. An Amaryllis shown by Mrs. A. Hogg among the house plants, and a Rex Begonia by Mrs. H. Rapsey, brought very favourable remarks. Two boxes of fine strawberries of the everâ€" bearing variety were also exhibited by Mrs. Rapsey, as well as homeâ€"grown currants of unusually large type preâ€" served by the coldâ€"pack method. Miss Kitty Duxfield left Sunday to continue her studies at North Bay Norâ€" mal School. Eim strest, Timmins, was very attracâ€" tive. Perennial Phlox in great many colourings was another of the good feaâ€" tures. Mr. I. P. Wilson‘s display of vegetables was an eyeâ€"opsner. There was one giant squash which weighed seventyâ€"two pounds and was five feet in circumference. This squash was grown outside in highly enriched well worked ground but was never given any special feeding as many who saw it imagined must have been done. There was a pumrtcin nearly as large Ths exhibit included ten varieties oT squash and vegetable marrow, two each of tomatoes, pumpkin, peas, cabbage and beans besides turnips, rhubarb., parsnips, lettuce, onions, cucumbers 1 Calendula exhibited by Mrs. Irving, 0‘ \ carrots, celery, potatoes, radish, beets, citron and cauliflower. There were thirtyâ€"four varieties of vegetables in the display, and all of a superior quallâ€" ty. Mrs. Art Ewing won two special prizes, an electric hot fate for the most points in cocking in which she obtained eight firsts and four seconds. In fancy work she received an electric toaster as a special for the most points having got eight firsts and four seconds . in this class also. The fancy work especially embroidery in colours, of Mrs. Horvath of 263 Birch street, north, was the cynosure of admiring eyes. Her work included cushions, aprons, centre pieces and table cover in cut work. Four firsts and three seconds were the allotment of this young Hunâ€" garian woman. The breakfast set in silk and wool by Mrs. W. W. Wilson created many curious guesses as to what it really was. Some thought it ! new styles of kimona tassels, others guessed buodoir caps. As a matter of fact it was aâ€"coffee cosey and six egg coseys. The drawings of Annie Micâ€" haluck and Francis King were well exeâ€" cuted. Mary Miller‘s fancy work was also good in ths girls‘ work.â€"â€" In ths poultry the Jersey Black Giants were noticeable for their size. A large White Rock® cock shown by Mr. W. D. Pearcs very jauntily carried off the honours as the best bird in the show. A lifeâ€" size porcupine in a cage on the flagâ€" nole was the side show that attracted most cof the attention. Sir Porcupine evidently liked the fuss that was made over him for when fiveâ€"thirty came he climbed pole under the flag and refused to go home. He was the proâ€" perty of Mr. R. Campsall. A white rat in a cage was another attraction. The Girl Guides again had their baby creche which was a boon to mothers with children. The Porcupine Goldâ€" fields band discoursed their music liberally throughout the day. wliilain Ewart Stanlakse was the winner of the first prize at thse baby show. This young gentleman is four and a half Rev.
