So far as The Advance knows there is no one in town who has reached a greater age. The late Thss. Dodd, Sr., was born at Heds Hill, Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotâ€" land, on June 5th, 1841. He came to Canada with his parents when he was only eight years old, and had lived in this province of Ontario for over eighty years. He had been in Timmins for about five years, making his home with his son here. _ The ladies looking after the tag day on Tuesday for the Victorian Order of | Nurses had a good day, especially in view of the weather which was wet in | the morning. Despite this and other lhandicaps the adies collected over ‘$300.00 in the boxes from the sale of l tags. The ladies were pleased with the | courtesy given them by the public and | the generous response to the appeal. A feature of the day was the fact that when the rain started Mr. John Dalâ€" }ton kindly sent cars to bring home the iladies who were doing the tagging in | distant parts of the town. This kindly | thoughtfulness was much appreciated. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons James Dodd, of Haileybury, and Thos Dodd, of Timmins, and one daughter Miss Hannah Dodd, of Kingston, Ont The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at 2.30, the funeral services being conducted at the S. He was not widely known in tewn, but all who had the pleasure of his acâ€" quaintance regarded the late Mr. Dodd very highly and regret his death. V.O.N. Addresses in House of Commons by Mr. Bradette During the past week J. A.: Bradette !; member for this riding in the. House of ;. Commons .made two addresses in the â€" House. One reproduced in greater part in this issue was a rather lengthy one, while the other one, delivered last Friâ€" day was a much shorter one. The . latter address will appear in The Adâ€"| vance next week as it has many points| of interest» warranting its reproduction in full. From the standpoint of people of this riding the Priday adâ€" dress is by far the more imoprtant yet it has received little attention. The longer address on Thursday last was given more space in some of the newsâ€" papers than the more valuable one the fcllowing day. The reason for this was that the Thursday address suggested that there had been some impropriety | here in the expenditure of road money by the province during the past Doâ€" minion The reading of the| letters submitted by Mr. Bradette do not | substantiate this. To make out a case‘ it is necessary to imply that no persons 1 should reccmmend road expenditures to | the Gcovernment, that no road money | should be expended before a Dominion | election, and that the Government| should be held accountable for private | correspondence. It would be just as‘| much to the point to suggest that the-i new post office building was no more than a plan to bribe this town. Also,| it may be hoped that no one will read ‘ out in the Legislature all the corresâ€" pondence, private, as well as official.| that may have been written before and â€" after the post office was built, because an equally erroneous impression might be created. Mr. Bradette had these | letters, or knew of these letters, at the time of the election campaign here some months ago, and he failed to use them here and then when they could have been dealt with in full. Ferhaps ~Mr. Bradette felt that even if the let | ters were bona fide the methods ‘by which they became party property were fnot such as to make.anyone feel parâ€" ticularly proud. Mr. Bradette‘s friends will be inclined to regret that part of | his address last week. \ GILLETTE BLADES Regulari$1.00 ............ . SQUIBB‘S TOOTH vie AUTO STROP BLADES Regular $1.00 ... G. H. Gauthier has been representing the bank, and A. ~C. Brown is appearing for the defenâ€" \ dant. According to the facts as gleanâ€" ',ed from the evidence, Johnson had dealings with the Bank at Winnipesg and through an error by one ‘ of the clerks $600.00 too much was creâ€" | dited to Johnson‘s account. Later, the account was transferred to Timmins, and Johnson is alleged to have drawn out the $600.00 that was not legally his. | His attention was drawn to this by ‘bank employees here but he did not ‘return the money. The case accordâ€" | ingly was entered against him. At the ‘court this week the clerk from Winniâ€" peg gave evidence. He told how the mistake occurred. He had called Johnâ€" son‘s attention to the matter and | pointed out that unless the bank was ‘reimbursed he would perscnally have to make good the amount. He told the ‘court that he could not well afford to do this, but that the rules of the bink | would require this if Johnson did not return the money. To the police Johnâ€" son eventually admitted that he knew he had been credited with more money than was due him, but that after reâ€" ceiving the money here he had lost : while having a time, and so he did not have it now to return. , Following investigation by the police ‘in a case where boys had secured a igun and some ammunition, the police |charged one secondâ€"hand dealer with 'ifailing to keep proper records of sales. | He was found guilty on this count and ‘fined $10.00 and costs.
