Experiments Carried on at Dominion Experimental Station, Kapuskasâ€" ing. Farmers Should be Proâ€" ducing Larger Part of Requirtments. A. Belzile, of the Dominion Experiâ€" mental Station, Kapuskasing, this week sends the following article to The Advance, under the heading, "Theé Imâ€" portance of Early Seeding of, Grain Crops in Northern Ontario‘":â€" EARLY SEEDING INPORTANT FOR GRAIN GROPS IN NORTH While Northern Ontario may not beâ€" come a large exporter of cereal grains for some time to come, it does appear as though the farmers could â€" and should be producing a much larger perâ€" centage of their home requirements. At the ~Dominion Experimental Station, Kapuskasing, Ontario it has been found that early seeding is one of the most important factors in the sucâ€" cessful production of the common cereal grains, such as wheat, oats, barâ€" ley and peas. The early sown grains have not only tended to give larger yields, but the maturity and general quality of these grains have been, in practically all cases, quite superior to those sown at later dates. Early seeding also makes possible the cutting and threshing of the grain rep earlier in the season, when the cround is usually in better shape to carry machinery. Then again the fact that the grains are cleared from the fields reasonably early in the season leaves a longer period in which to get the necessary fallâ€"ploughing and surâ€" face draining done, for these are the essential features in preparing for early seeding the following spring. Toronto Telegram Ontario, a Tory province, contributâ€" ed $180,000,000 to the Federal Treasury in the year 1929. This s nearly one half of the total revenut of the entire Dominion. And vyet it is a province to which Premier King piece To be consistent, Mr. King should hand back the $180,000,000 and proudly assert that he would not accept one 5â€"cent piece from a province that supâ€" ports a Tory administration. All the municipalities and the mining and other concerns are being invited to attend from all along the T. N.O. In bringing up the question Mayor Sullivan of Cobalt is quoted as remarkâ€" ing that at a previous meeting of the Cobalt town council a resolution had been passed urging the Hydro Comâ€" mission to bring the transmission line from the Aibitibi Canyon to Sudbury by way of the T. N. O. line. Now, Mr. Sullivan is quoted as saying, on thinking the matter over he had come to the conclusion that it would be better to deal with the question of cheaper power for the district, leaving the method of providing it with the provincial authorities. This seems to be a fair enough view and the whole question will be discussed no doubt from all standpoints at the proposed Englehart meeting. There are many features to be considered and the quesâ€" tion is not as "open and shut" as might appear on the surface. So far as The Advance is concerned, it believes that the power question wil be settled satisâ€" Canada Northern Power Lorporatlon, Limited ONTROLLING AND OPERATIN se se se . mm . aa n m NORTHERN ONTARIO POWER COMPANY, LIMITED GRE AT NORTHERN POWER CORPORATION.
