The second store to be burglarized was entered on Saturday night or early Sunday morning. This grocery store is operated by Messrs Giovanelli apd Zanchin, of Timmins. The proprieâ€" tors, having suspicion that some goods were being taken, laid various traps, and the victim easily walked into the last trap on Sunday morning. Conâ€" stable Noyse, who had been in waiting for some considerable time, was in the end rewarded when the thief almost walked over him. The unfortunate man was rather surprised when Conâ€" stable Noyse told him to "put them up," and in very short space of time C. Fulton was on the scene, and their man was soon behind the bars. The police department is to be congratulated upâ€" on their smart piece of work. A box social will be held in the baseâ€" ment of the United Church on Februâ€" ary 13th under the auspices of the Young People‘s Club. Don‘t forget your box, and you are sure to have a good time at the Young People‘s social. It is pleasing to hear that Mastetr Billy Turner, who underwent an operaâ€" tion last week, at the Timmins hospital for appendicitis, is improving fine. We all wisch him a quick recovery to health. A very nice concert was given last week in the United Church over which the Rev. T. E. Kennedy presided, the artists coming from Timmins, South Porcupine and Schumacher. The audiâ€" ence were given their first treat, by the male quartette, Messrs Roberts, Dockâ€" ing, Bawden and Trebilcock, which was loudly applauded. Miss Cotcher next favoured the audience with a solo. This gifted singer is always a welcome soloist to the Schumacher people. She was loudly applauded. Mr. W. H. Wilâ€" son accompanied at the organ, with Birrell Bell, violinist. The hit of the evening was that of Bandmaster Bridges, of South Porcupinge, with his orchestra and Masifer Jack Bridges taking the vocal items. Master Jack was loudly applauded. He sure knows how to handle the traps. Another very pleasing item was that of the mixed quartette, Mrs. Docking and Mrs. Roâ€" berts, Messrs Thomas and Bawden. Miss Sinclair, of Timmins, showed her talent as a reader and was well enâ€" cored. Miss R. Mair imen favoured the audience with two solos, which were well rendered, and sheâ€"received a great applause. The beautiful tenor voice of Mr. C. Roberts was next heard in two solos. Solos were also well rendered by Miss Eyers, of South Porcupine. young singer with a very sweet voice: Mrs. C. Robsorts, and Mr. D. Cregg, of Schumacher; saxaphone solos by Bandâ€" master Bridges, South Porcupine; pianoforte solo, Miss C. Reynolds, south Porcupine; banjo and guitar selections by Birrell Bell and his asâ€" sistants. Sceottish airs were well renâ€" dered by Mr. W. H. Wilson on the orâ€" gan. The Rev. Kennedy, in his closâ€" ing remarks, thanked all the artists for their assistance in making the conâ€" cert such a success. Capt. Tonkin took first place last week in the McIntyre league by a wellâ€" merited victory over Capt. Angrignon. This game was hotly contested, as there apparently is strong rivalry between the two teams. The Weber and Newâ€" land game was a hardâ€"fought game, Newlands winning the first frame by 22 pins; Weber came back strong durâ€" ing second frame and won by 84 pins; going into the third frame with Weber 64 pins up, Newlands‘ team strove hard for the lead and won by 49 pins; thus they divided the points. Jenkins had a runâ€"away victory over McMillan, and secured all the 4 points. The most spectacular performance durâ€" ing the week was that of Capt. Tonkin with a nice total of 758 pins in three strings. Other notable performances were that of S. McMillan and Boutet with 704 and 702 respectively.
