Sauriol, 89, Gilâ€" Clemens at Dr. Helen McMurchy, of the Thild Welface Division of the Dept. of Health, Ottawa, has issued a very valuâ€" able booklet entitled "Rickets; Prevenâ€" tion and Cure." The booklet should prove of great value to parents and also very heipful in building up better health. Dr. McMurchy has the neâ€" cessary knowledge to write as an exâ€" nert on the subject, having specialized in the matter of the health of children, and in addition she has a talent with the pen that enables her to present her knowledge in interesting and effective way. Rickets is the commonest disease of children in our large towns, says one of the authorities uoted in the bookâ€" let. Children that have had slight or severe rickets do not grow well or thrive well. They are often backward at school. Their teeth are soft and decayed. They are more likely than other children to have colds, bronchiâ€" tis, convulsions, pneumonia and other diseases. They often have adenoids and enlarged tonsils. Accordingly, there will be a general desire to elimâ€" inate rickets if that is practical. Inâ€" deed, it is not very difficult. "Sun, codâ€" liver oil and suitable food prevents rickets," says Dr. McMurchy. Booklet on Prevention and Cure of Rickets The booklet emphasizes that rickets is a disease of nutrition caused by lack of sun and lack of suitable food. It begins soon after birth and may not be noticed in infancy or childhood but still it may do harm more or less all through life. The signs by which rickets may be known as present are detailed in the booklet, and it is pointed out that though rickets may be cured, it is still better to prevent the condition. This may be done by the use of sun, suitable food and cod liver oil. Free copies of the booklet, "Rickets, Prevention and Cure‘" may be obtained free on request from the Deputy Minâ€" ister, Dept. of Pensions and National Health, the Elgin Building, Ottawa. All parents should see that they have a copy of this booklet. It is easy to read and easy to understand, and by a readâ€" ing of it and the observance of its sloâ€" gan, ‘"Sun, Cod Liver Oil and Suitable Food Prevent Rickets" this disease of children may be added to the several others that have been practically elimâ€" inated through the good work of apâ€" plied medical science. The neighbour woman falled to answer to her name in court though she had been duly served with a sumâ€" mons to appear. The complainfiant alleged that the other woman claimed ownership of a cat that the said comâ€" plainant had brought to the Kirkland Lake camp. The result was a blooming row, and the row was followed by more forcible arguments. In the absence of the accused, for whom no one seemed to have any brief, a fine of $10.00 and costs was imposed making that cat a costly one.
