Geo. Michaelson was fined $25.00 and costs, over $50.00 in all on a charge of assault. It appeared that he attemptâ€" ed to hit a man but missed him, hittâ€" ing the man‘s wife. The affair occurrâ€" ed at a party. At police court here this week the Provincial officers took in $600.00 in fines in liquor cases. A charge of being in illegal possession of liquor cost Ben Jacobs $200.00, while a similar charge against Michael Mazzuca resulted in a similar fine of $200.00 and costs. These charges were preferred by Provincial Officer E. F. Hartlieb. A charge along the same line against Mazzuca‘s brother was withdrawn. Geo. Brodeur and Mrs. Annie Gariepy each paid $100.00 and costs on charges of illegal posâ€" session of liquor. These charges were laid by Provincial Officer A. Craik. A charge of selling against a man named Harry Moran, Maple street, south was dismissed, his witnesses securing his Bill Kejevan, rear of 33 Fourth ave., waus charged under the L. C. PFollowing the attainment of a new output record in 1928 valued at $274,989.487, or 11.2 per cent. over the 1927 total, the rise in the output of metals and nonâ€"meta‘s in the halfâ€"year ending June, 1929, to a value of 172 per cent, above the total for the first half of 1928, once again pointed to a continuance of prosperity in Canada‘s mining industry that foreâ€" New Halfâ€"Year Record in Canada‘s Mining Work > Pedlow, Re rbout going eaithn hne ilth that t recdâ€" tho adr Appaâ€"~ of opinâ€" l DC ent of a new ied at $274,9 >r the 1927 to f metals and air ending Ju 2 per cent, a t half of 192 the use the he L The oddity of the weather is no m length of the days these times. A better plan would be to build roads for the settlers. If the Governâ€" ments will only supply the roads, the settlers will" socn provide their own homes. The oddity of the weather is no more remarkable than the length of the days these times. On July 24th Hon. Chas. McCrea told Timmins business men that inside of ten days an official announcement would be made in regard to the Kamiskotia railway. Those are the longest ten days on reâ€" cord in the North. Possibly Hon. Mr. McCréeéea may have been misunderstood: he may have said ten weeks. However, in any case, the people of the North are still anxious for definite announcement as to the building or otherwise ‘of the extension to Kamiskotia. It may be that patient waiting in the matter may be well rewarded. The Government is studying the desirability of extending the T. N. O. to tap the mining areas north of the Transcontinental railway. If such an extension were built, Timmins and district might find the railway to Kamiskotia worth waiting for if it passed through Kamiskotia and Kapuskasing and went on to the Red Lake country. Eisewhere in this issue will be found an editorial article from The Northern Tribune, of Kapuskasing, in which the use of airships is advocated for the transportation of hockey and.baseball teams from one town to another in this North Land for district league games. Many may consider the idea of the Kapuskasing newspaper a farâ€"fetched one, but The Advance believes that it is not only practical for the future but that it will be in actual practice in the years to chAo AIT DT OM mAaAIl me H ed re comâ€" Is from f $123,â€" Ad ive proven thnel i} tores or towns. ihey nave all their supplies and pack duce during a greater part ad has been their one grf th Kirkland Lake, Sept. 4thâ€"Special to The Advance:â€"As was promised by the Teck Township Council last month, acâ€" tual work on the pavement plan for Copper showed the most outstanding gain in the mineral production for the first half of this year, rising 23.9 per cent. over the quantity produced in the first half of 1928. Higher prices during the first half of 1929 raised the total valuation of copper output for the period to 68.1 per cent. above the figâ€" ures for the first half of the preceding year. Gold production reached a total of 940,000 fine ounces valued at $19,â€" 431,626, or 3.7 per cent. above the figâ€" ures for the first half of 1928. Nearly 55 million pounds of nickel were proâ€" duced in the halfâ€"year ending June, 1929, showing a rise of 18.3 per cent. in quantity and 21.1 per cent. in value over the corresponding totals for the first half of 1928.
