It related to the mining and prospecting industries and was both educative and interesting. It showed in a brief glimpse the prospector on the trail and at work, and then it took up in effective way the picturing of the mining industry. There were a num- ber of scenes showing the Hollinger un- derground workings and the picture succeeded in giving a. good review 01' the whole process of gold mining. According to the last issue of The Northern -Tribune, of Kapuskasing, there is likely to be a Labour party candidate in the next election contest in North Cochrane for the provincial house. The Tribune says that there is considerable disappointment with the administration of North Land affairs and at the same time a lack of faith in the Liberals doing anything for a time after neglecting the North so long. It would make things quite interesting in North Cochrane to have a three- cornered race, The Tribune thinks. but at the same time the paper seems to have an idea that the Liberal might not run a candidate against Labour but would attempt the roundabout plan of defeating the Conservative candi- date. To them roads are essential. and it is certain now tlut some of them are becoming dis- eouz'aged. One settler this week told 'rhe.Advancetiuu he had neverznade any public complaint before but. now was so disheartened by the failure of all premises and prospects that he thought “he would kick so hard that he would kick himself out of the country alto- gether." Under the best of conditions the settler has a hard time and it takes courage and grit to stick to it. With- out roads he is so handicapped that he hasn't a fair chance to make good. The Government should take up the question in the most earnest way. If settlement is not wanted. it would be well to say so plainly. rather than by cursing settlement ou't of existence by the heart-breaking plan of refusing roads. One of the most noteworthy of these was at the Cobalt Contact Mine where the transformer house, which was struck about a week before, was destroyed by a bolt. Lightning also ran down the telephone wires into the local ofï¬ce of the Northern Telephone Co. and caus- ed some damage to the switchboard. necessitating the calling out of the ï¬re department. There was also a very heavy fall of rain during the storm, which fortunately did not last very long.
