According to recent word from the Harker, encouraging mineralization was encountered in the upper horizons. A small part could be classified as ore, and a considerable tonnage could be included as low grade ore in event of the mine being develâ€" oped successfully at depth. However, summed up, these results at upper levels are just a little short of what would be required to establish a proâ€" fitable mineâ€"hence the desire to find out if an increase in mineralization cecurs at greater depth. Toward this end, the shaft was continued to 1,000 feet in depth, which point was recently reached. The crosscut is now inoving toward the vein and a campaign of drifting along the fracture is intended to render a final verdict some time before the end of September. Mr. and Mrs. N. The counâ€" cil were all invited to Cochrane for the big Firemen‘s tournament on July lst. A letter from the Ontario Municipal Asâ€" scociation was left over for later conâ€" sideration. The township engineer, Mr. J. M. Sevâ€" eral were in attendance re taxes and assessment. G. Colombo asked for a reduction on the Empire theatre. Conâ€" siderable time was taken up with a reâ€" adjustment of the assessment of some blocks in the Bartleman townsite on the points most extremely distant from Timmins. The assessment as it stood, was based on values at a time when real estate in and around Timmins was at a highâ€"water mark. Some of this proâ€" perty was territory annexed to Timâ€" mins, but Tisdale was to hand over to them their complete assessment roll, nence it was their council had to handle this matter. Mr. Bartleman has made efforts to have these blocks turned back to acreage but owing to the government lots this cannot very readily be made. Mr. Gordon Gauthier, lawyer, of Timâ€" mins, was present on behalf of the Porâ€" cupine United Mines re arrears of taxâ€" es. The taxes on the Rochester claims of this property were paid up to date but there were some $7900 of taxes due m other groups of claims in the townâ€" ship. It was arranged that this might be paid in three instalments, two monâ€" ths apart, if the present year‘s taxes were kept paid up to date. The Porcuâ€" pine United Mines are at present a goâ€" ing concern, having turned out their largest gold brick in the last two weeks that it has handled since its existence. Hence though there are not chattels on the claims on which the arrears are due the capital wealth of the company was considered a sufficient guarantee to allow these arrears to be paid by inâ€" stalments. ent guarantee for them to start the work where it was orginally started. Edwards Morgan, charterâ€" ed accountants, wrote, asking an inâ€" crease in their yearly salary for auditâ€" ing the books of the township, as the volume of work had increased. This mater was held over. A letter asking that the dock at South Porcupine be fixed up as there were so many people using it, brought out considerable disâ€" cussion. The dock really is government property but it would take so long to get action through the provincial source that relief could not be got for this year. (Last year the Boy Scouts of South Porcupine borrowed the lumber from the township and by their own efforts put the dock into decent shape for the onâ€"locokers at their field day aquatic sports. Then after July ist they had to take up the lumber and return it to the township). Engineer Hendry said that the estimates for this work could be taken out of what was allowed for incidentals. However this being Econâ€" omy Night the members from Schumâ€" acher could not sese the necessity, so nothing will be done this year. A light was asked for Rae street, South Porecuâ€" pine. This will depend on the nearness of a pole line. Better lighting was askâ€" eda for the dangerous curve on first avenue, Schumacher. This will be lookâ€" ed after. A concrete sidewalk for Second avenue, Schumacher was disâ€" cussed, also the blasting out of the roc:: on a certain portion of that street makâ€" ing a more passable highway. Considâ€" erable discussion followed. It was statâ€" ed that the minds of people when they signed petitions for concrete walks and then again when they realized the porâ€" tion of the cost of same that they had to face individually, were very different. Although this work had been allowed for in the estimates, it was eventually decided it could be done without this year.
