MONDAY IS S.A. TAG DAY AT sSCHUMACHER AND SOUTH END Monday of next week is tag day at South Porcupine and Schumacher for the Salvation Army. The event is in connection with the annual Selfâ€"Deâ€" nmnial campaign of the Army, the proâ€" ceeds going to finance the social welâ€" fare work of the organization. As the Army does a great deal of helpful and beneficial work for the betterment of those who have drifted below their best, the cause is a worthy one and both Schumacher and South Porcupine will no doubt deal generously in their resâ€" ponse to the appeal. Toronto FIELD DAY THIS WEEK AT LADIES‘ GOLF CLUB HERE Friday of this week, June 7th, will be a field day with hidden hole conâ€" test, at the Timmins Ladies‘ Golf Club. On a charge of obstructing the police in the discharge of their duties, Mrs. Naomi Budarick, Cobalt, was fined $50.00 and costs recently. The police report was that she had.failed to adâ€" mit the police during a raid until liâ€" quor in the house had been disposed of. Mrs. Budarick has appealed the conâ€" viction Billed to start at 9.00 p.m. on Friday, the 2nd instant, "Lap" LaPrairie‘s Cornish wrestling and boxing exhibiâ€" tion started with the wrestlers being introduced at 8.59 p.m., and the lightâ€" | weights in their first hitch at 9.00 p.m. | M. Trudgeon won first and third back ifrom W. Hooper, the acknowledged | champion, in the best two out of three. All three backs were clean falls and made on intricate hitches. Stan Hoopâ€" er retains the middleâ€"weight title in a sudden death, when he threw W. Brewâ€" er after a 20â€"minute hitch,. The wrestling mats were removed from the ring and the boxing exhibiâ€" tion started witu Harold Wallingford and Freddie Godin giving a three twoâ€" minute round, no decision, exhibition. Mickey Watts Wins on a Foul McGuire Knockedâ€"out Taylor Boxing Bouts on Monday Have Everybody Talking All Week. Cornish Wrestlers Please Audience. Kid Hamâ€" ilton and Lefty Billy Trumble Get Crowd on Toes. Morâ€" risâ€"Rowan Bout one of Best Seen in Years. Next came the surprise of the evenâ€" ing when "Kid" Roy Hamilton and "Lefty‘"‘ Billy Trumble mixed it up, high, wide and handsome, for a 4â€"round no decision, bout. Trumble at 110 pounds gave away 6 pounds to the "Kid," who scaled 116 pounds. While Trumble is no stranger in the ring in Timmins, it was the "Kid‘s" first apâ€" pearance in the resined canvas here and for all the difference it made in his action he might as well have been up a back alley as he was right at Trumble from the first gong till the last. In the case of a decision, Trumâ€" ble, the exâ€"British Boy Scout chamâ€" pion, would have had a slight advantâ€" age in points, but he claims the "Kid" is there with the goods and has all that goes to making a real fighter. Next came the feature bout of the evening. Mickey Watts, the little fightâ€" ing Welshman entered the ring to the Welsh air, ‘"Men of Harlech," played to perfection by the Timmins Citizens‘ Band. Next came "Dutch" Henry Johnson, Timmins‘ own boy, to the tune of "O, Canada." Referee Arthur Leonard introduced the boys, gave them their instructions and warnings, bandâ€" ages were exainined and the principals repaired to their corners. From the first clang of the gong, Watts and Johnson showed that they were finâ€" ished artists in both fistic science and ring generalship. Johnson seemed to be the aggressor but points were evenly distributed. Very unfortunately Johnâ€" son unintentionally fouled Watts, after "Frenchy‘‘ Leonard Morris and "Bobâ€" by‘"‘ Rowan, the little Scot, next went four twoâ€"minute rounds to a judge‘s decision of a draw. With Morris at 128 pounds and Rowan at 132 pounds, they put in a bout that was in itself worth the price of admission. These boys don‘t clinch, foul or stall. They box every second of their round and show what every fight fan loves, and that is science, backbone and sportsmanship. "Handsome‘" Pat McGuire and the 18â€"yearâ€"old cowboy, George Taylor, next went 4 rounds. Taylor just about closed up both of Pat‘s eyes in the first three rounds, but in the fourth round. Pat picked one up from about a foot underneath the floor of the ring, or had a brick hid in his glove, for withâ€" out any other warning but a slight squeal he scored a knockout when he shot a fast right, from his inside left ankle to Taylor‘s chin and the cowboy took the count of ten. RIDGEDOME MINES APPOINT G.J.B. ARMSTRONG MANAGER Campaign of Development Work Planned for Present on Property South of the Hayden. Mr. C. J. B. Armstrong, mining enâ€" gineer, formerly of Cobalt and popuâ€" larly known as "Army‘" Armstrong amongst his confreres and many friends in the North Country has been appointed resident engineer of Ridgeâ€" dome Mines with headquarters at Timâ€" mins, Ont. Mr. Armstrong, it will be remembered was General Superintendent of the Northern Customs Concentrator at Coâ€" balt and fiotation expert for the Genâ€" eral Engineering Company. He was also superintendent of Kirkland Lake in the early days, and the latter four vears with the Hollinger Mine. Mr. Armstrong has taken over his new duties at the property and is erecâ€" ting shaft head and installing plant and equipment to sink No. 1 shaft to depth. The installation of plant should be completed within the next 30 days, when active development of the proâ€" perty will be aggressively carried on. It is the intention of the manageâ€" ment to sink to 500 feet this year and start cutting and Grifting at several levels. An active diamond drilling campaign will also be carried on. This new development work underâ€" taken by Ridgedome Mines coupled with the successful diamond drilling reâ€" sults ocbtained by the Hayden Mine on their adjoining property and the plans of that company for the aggressive deâ€" velopment of their property has aroused great interest in that section of Porcupine Camp in which these proâ€" nerties are located. o be hoeld will be:â€"Kid Williams and Z%. O. Stevens, of Toronto,; Dutch Johnson versus ancther classy boxer, to be arranged. Sam Kalember is staging another oxing exhibition at Kirkland Lake on ing l4th. Among the bouts noted as ) be hseld will be:â€"Kid Williams and THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIM warning by the referee, and the bout was awarded Watts in the middle of the fourth round. Watts therefore won the fight, won any title that Johnson claimed, and Watts‘ backers would win their bets in the same manner as if Watts had won on a judge‘s decision on points. For the good of the sport, which has made rapid and excellent advance in the past two months, these boys, with a view to their reputations as good sportsmen, should get together and arrange a return bout at Timmins in the near future to decide definitely the better man of the two. i"w"m“ «t P AL AP D AL LAAA D AL P â€"AL LA â€"AL P PA ALP PP PP P l l t P P P ~AP P P * * i z TIMMINS TIMMINS TOWNSITE moms 44L â€"A wwup 4+ 0*". 4 {1, W sSCHUMACHER 4 £%5 6L We P ue e ue e m s mt DOME _3 th _ W""““*N’ We find it necessary to strictly adhere to our Free Delivery schedule and would request that orders for various deliveries be phoned as early as convenient.
