Isbell, Montreal mining broker, was founrd not guilty of charges of conspiracy preferred against him by the Crown. Judge Denton said that he was entitled to a reasonable doubt. The case concerned transactions in Eastern Metals Smelting Co. stock, in which Gilbert and Fields, now in the penitentiary, cleaned up $62,000. Isbell had taken split commissions, in Monâ€" treal Mining Exchange dealings, of $397 and that, the evidence showed, was the limit of his connection â€" His Honor thought that if Isbell had conâ€" spired with Gilbert and Fields he would have demanded a larger share. N. H. Greer, K.C., was counsel for the deâ€" fence, and J. W. McFadden prosecuting Crown Attorney. That is the recognized principle on which all Empire Shopping Weeks are arranged; Home products, in this case, Canadian first, other Empire products next.
