It was the good work of the Kiwanees that equipped and outfitted the Shelter throughout at the time of its inaugurâ€" ation, and since then the ladies have not forgotten the children‘s home. At various times the Kiwanees, both as individuals and a society, have made kindly gifts to the Shelter. Recently, the matron was presented with a beauâ€" tiful desk, and last week the Kiwanees added to the gifts to the Shelter by »resenting a handsome child‘s cutter and robe for the use of any small children that may come under the care of the Shelter. Dr. G, F. Jackson, who for many years has been one of the leading medical men at Haileybury, left last week for Toronto to take up practice with one of the city‘s wellâ€"known surgeons. Among the many special donations made to the Children‘s Aid Society last week in the campaign so effectively conducted by the ladies‘ committee one worthy of special note was a cheque for $50.00 from Timmins Lodge, No. 459 1.0.0.F. The good work of the C. A. 8. has always received generous supâ€" port from the fraternal societies of the district, Golden Beaver Lodge, A. F. A. M.; Timmins and Porcupine Lodge, A. F. A. M., South Porcupine for years past making regular yearly donations to the work. Last week two divers were taken to Cochrane with a view to searching Commando Lake for the gun used by the murderer of Inspector Constable. According to word coming here from Cochrane, it is understood that the authorities believe that the murderer threw away his gun after his cowardly killing of the officer.. It was thought that the gun might be in Commando Lake and that body of water was acâ€" cordingly dragged in the hope of reâ€" covering the weapon, The dragging operations, however did not succeed in the recovery of the gun and as a conâ€" sequence it is understood the services of the divers were requisitioned, the recovery of the weapon being naturally considered as an important link in the chain of evidence in regard to the Cochrane crime.
