It will be recalled by readers of The Advance that South Porcupine interests were among the earliest ones to enter Chiâ€" 5 bougamau and engage in the work of ‘testing out properties in the district. \ With the Dome in the field the Porâ€" ‘ cupine may well be considered as well ?represented now. In addition it may be noted that scouts of two of the leadâ€" ing Ontario mines have gone in to look over properties, while it is announced that one of the leading producers in ‘\ Canada has now made a bid for the Chibogamau Lake David mines proâ€" perty situated in Scott and McKenzie | townships of the Lake Dore Chibougaâ€" imau mining zone. New York Sun:â€"Any campaign preâ€" diction will be premature until the country learns how the carpetâ€"sweeping industry stands on Hoover and what the coughâ€" dxop industry thinks of Smith. Much preliminary work has been done on the Chibougamau Lake David mines property and arrangements are already under way for a radiore» surâ€" vey to be followed by a diamond drillâ€" ing campaign. Two plane loads of equipment went in to this property over the weekâ€"end. The company holds 2,500 acres. A vacation resort is a place where the natives live on your vacation ugtil the next summer. Well, sir, they comes tearin up, six of them, and circles the tree, yellin and growlin and the saliver drippin from their lips. In a few minutes four of them beats it to the creek as was nearby, and the other two lays in wait for me at foot of the tree. I hadn‘t no nife or nuthin, my gun being on ground, and in half an hour or so the other four wolves comes back driving four beavers in front of them.. Well, sir, them beavers sits down and chews and chews away at the tree and after an hour or two she starts to crack. The wolves growl at them and the beavers chews much harder, and seein‘ no help I begins to yell blue murder, hopin, as someone would hear me. Unfortunately, those who have the power to make us happiest can also make us the most miserable. Well, sir, my two shack mates was comin‘ with guns to see what was keeping me, and seeing the wolves they comes at a run shooting as they comes. § P.S.â€"Excews mistakes, pleeze. I no great scollar. The annual meeting of the Caledonâ€" ian Society of Timmins will be held in the Hollinger Recreation hall on Wedâ€" nesday evening, Sept. 26th, at 8.30. The secretary, Mr. Duncan Cuthell, points out that the special business of the meeting will be the election of officeâ€" bearers for the year, and that the atâ€" tendance of all members is particularly requested. COBALT ALSO ADOPTS NEW TAX COLLECTION METHODS Last week announcement was made of byâ€"laws passed by the town of Timâ€" mins for the adoption of the 1928 asâ€" sessment roll for 1929 (with the usual additions and after a court of revision) and hereafter the collection of taxes early in the year so as to avoid the cost of borrowing money to keep the town running until taxes come in. Last week it was also announced that a similar procedure is planned by the town of Cobalt. Councillor Wainâ€" wright, chairman of the Cobalt counâ€" cil‘s finance commitee last week gave notice of a motion to achieve this reâ€" sult. It is likely that Cobalt will also adopt a plan of having the takes payâ€" able in three or four instalments, such a plan being possible if the rates are collectable early in the year. Even if marriage is considered a failâ€" ure these days, has anyone yet proved that divorce is a success? Well, sir, the wolves hear the guns, sees the men coming, and runs away, and the beavers, too. Well, sirs, don‘t you peoples now beâ€" lieves that wolves don‘t chews men? Give them the chance and they does. You can print this if you want and I‘ll give you my oath as it is true. Put it in theâ€"paper. The people should know the truth about it all. ANNUAL MEETING, SEPT>26TH OF THE CALEDONIAN SOCIETY Ssouth Porcupine, Sept. 14th, 1928 To The Editor The Porcupine Advance. The following letter is given for what it is worth. And it did not cost The Advance anything. The letâ€" ter is duly signed by a name not alâ€" together uncommon, but as the nams does not appear in the directory or the voters‘ list, it is withheld, as it may be what is scientifically known as a "spoof." It is evidently the work of an oldâ€"timer. At any rate it holds an oldâ€"time yarn that has not been pubâ€" lished for a time and so may be new to the younger generation. The latâ€" ter is as follows, with the exception that the signature is held back, beâ€" cause the name is a perfectly good one and some one of the same name might object:â€" Dear Sir:â€"I sees in the paper as how you people don‘t believe as how wolves chase people. Well, sir, in 1909 was shacking down the creck past Golden City and one dark night coming home I hears the wolves yowlâ€" ing. They comes closer and I sees them making for me. Supplementary to this may be quoted the review recently made by T. W. An=â€" derson, of the firm of Stobie, Furlong Co., Montreal. Mr. Anderson was one of a party recently visiting the proâ€" perty. This party included J. M. Forbes, consulting engineer for the Sisâ€" coe Gold Mines. The review by Mr. Anderson and the general impression made on him and on other members of the party should be of more than passing interest. During the past rew weeks several questions have been received by The Advance from readers as to the proâ€" gress being made by the Siscoe Gold Mines, whose property is in the Lake de Montigny area, Dubuisson township, Northwestern Quebec. The property is about 30 miles east of Rouyn and is on the same gold belt. The property is usually reached by way of Amos; Queâ€" bec. Several in Timmins are especially interested in the property, and to judge from letters received by The Advance others in more distant places are also concerned with the property. Regarding the progress orf work Mr. Anderson said that recent drifting reâ€" sults on the 400â€"foot level are decidedly encouraging. No assays are yet availâ€" able from the last ground but free gold is in evidence. A small assay plant, to take the place of the permanent one which will be part of the mill is being installed, and this will further faciliâ€" tate underground work. On the 500â€" foot level nice values are also being enâ€" countered. The Southwestern Engiâ€" neering Company, which is constructâ€" ing the mill, has a large force of men now on the property and the manageâ€" ment is satisfied that the mill will be started approximately when promised November 17, 1928. Recent Diamond Drilling Results Said to be Very Satisfactory. Rapid Progress in Mill Convtruction An intensive diamond drilling proâ€" gramme has been authorized for Siscoe and a company diamond drill has been ordered and should be on the property within about two weeks. The party found conditions at the property excellent. Rapid progress is being made with mill construction and practically all mill machinery is either on the ground or in transit. One of the most important requirements is fuel oil for the Diesel engine. ‘The first of two large steel storage tanks will be completed within a few days, and the oil is being ordered forward. The winâ€" ter supply of oil will be transported to the mine by a steel tank barge. The additional supply of air has been arranged for through a large portable gasoline compressor, pending compleâ€" tion of the power house which should be ready by the beginning of October. This additional temporary power has enabled the company to speed up unâ€" derground work, which. will greatly facilitate the work on the raises and general preparation of the mine fir production. A determined drive is at present unâ€" der way by the Sudbury police to make the street safe for pedestrians and for the motorists themselves, as well as convenient for the firefighters and for business in general Last week no less than forty motorists were in police court for various breaches of the byâ€" laws and traffic regulations. The fines were chiefly $1.00 and $2.00 and costs. The offences charged were chiefly minor ones, but nevertheless important to the common safety and convenience. Wrongful parking was probably the chief cause of the fines. FORTY SUDBURY MOTORISTS ANSWER FOR BREACH OF LAW Canada J. A. HAUGH MFG.
