Special to The Advance. The eouncil of Tisdale township met at the council chambers on Wedâ€" nesday, April 25th, with the reeve and all the councillors present. Owing to Clerk Evans being absent, due to the illness of his mother, his place was taken by Assessor Smith. After the minutes of last meeting, considerâ€" able correspondence was read. Quite an amount of it was. requests for charity cases or re taxes. The Conâ€" raurum Mines objected to the price charged for the use of the township. tractor to move their erusher. â€" The usual rate was charged but owing to the breakâ€"up of the roads there was not as much accomplished as had been hoped. Dr. Kinsman interviewed the council re support for the Poreupine hockey club. The chief contention against having given support for the past year seemed to be the lack of a properly itemized account of expenâ€" ditures made. Dr. Kinsman stated that it was hoped to revive the Mines |league in camp, as well as the usual y OA UE â€" C HLLLEL]] y : : CYY Bs d 4. 030 0004 Ub oo on o o qi N.O.H.A. league. Mr. Geo. D. Hmnil-% ton, reeve, representing Whitney, inâ€" terviewed the council in regard to the flood. Councillor Laforest was deleâ€" gated to go down to the scene of the pulpâ€"wood congestion with him and see what they thought of the matter. Reeve Gallagher had wired Hon. Mr. Finlayson but it did not seem as though the township itself could do much. Mr. W. Buttrick interviewed. the council asking for planks for crossing and also lights on the Bosâ€" trom townsite but as this townsite is still assessed as acreage instead of town lots it was decided places closer in needed attention first. F. Rich again was present re cost of putting in his sewer. As he did not seem to remember definitely what he had proâ€" mised when wanting this sewer, deâ€" spite the fact that he was in a vicinâ€" ity where sewers were not feasible owing to high water conditions, etc., Mr. Ram\a\ Macdonald. â€"Daily Express, London was asked by the reeve to come Great Work in Assisting Overcome Situaâ€" ship of Tisdale Council Deals With Many Other Interesting News from South Porcuâ€" . mm a «â€" wl THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO Ned NP Y Nmd T w Te . MFZ snn e back when the clerk would be pre-’,"\ sent to place before him his signed | * agreement in black and white. Mr.] M. Bessette inquired re sewers on Commercial avenue. He will be sent| / a letter when this is further conâ€" sidered. It was decided to have 100% g copies of the financial statement of| § the township printed by The Poreuâ€"| y pine Advance. _ Councillor Williams | q thought the Board of Health should| » be asked to inspect rooming houses as) \ ‘tn number in house, etc., as it was| felt some of these places were more | ; erowded than proper sanitary condiâ€"| tions would warrant. _ The ibill for}|s seven hundred dollars for the > emergeney pumps was passed. (These| i pumps were got just in the nick of | ; time.) A byâ€"law to amend the taxiâ€"| \cab byâ€"law was passed. It had been thought that the township had no rights over motor buses. Now it is \ learned that buses picking up passâ€" engers and dropping them wituin the bounds of the township may be licensâ€" ‘ed by the townshp for same. The reeve reported the special act for the| | | consolidation of the townships debenâ€" tures as having been passed by the Provincial Government. _ This was held up for a while by a petition sent in from here which rather foolishly stated that this matter had not been placed before the electors. People should make sure of the facts before signing such a document. On Counâ€" cillor Hawkin‘s wanting to _ know where they got such an argument the: answer was made that it was not an| argument at all. _ Someone merely | said it, then some others signed As a matter of fact this voting was | well and legally advertised last Augâ€"| ust and we believe the facet that it had been favourably voted on was reâ€" ported as a news item in the papers of the district. [Where the petitionâ€"| ers got their information, on rather| misinformation, is hard to itell, but! surely a person who is going to put| his name to a petition effecting Iis:| township should have interest enough in the welfare of that township to ascertain the truth of the statement to which he is putting his name. It is said that a number of names on the list are not even legally qualified \to vote. It is believed the Provincial 1 C ( % Government may make an investigaâ€" tion re the getting out of this petition. The routine bills and salaries were passed.
