South Porcupine/ Has Fine Big Programme of Boys‘ Work Some Classy Hockey Games at South Porcupine Recently. Results of the Curling Matches. A very interesting programme of Boys‘ Work is now being carried out in South Porcupine, embracing boys from 9 to 17. The younger boys, from 9 to 12, have formed themselves into an Explorers‘ Group and are banded together for weekly exploraâ€" tions into the land of helpfulness. They meet for business on Mondays at 7.00 p.m.; each boy being responâ€" sible to supply a place for meeting in his turn. Later on in the week they meet with their leader to do a good turn in the community. The older boys (of the Trail Rangers and Tuxis Groups) have their meeting in the High School on Thursday evenâ€" ings. This meeting comprises physiâ€" cal culture, handicraft, photography, first aid, and radio. After a short session of physical training the boys go into separate groups for specialized work in one of the 4Above subjects. By this méthod they learn many useâ€" ful and practical things. Incidentalâ€" ly they are also, ‘building character. The following are the group leaders: Physicalâ€"culture, W. Sharp; handiâ€" eraft, A. Suttie;. photography, W. Mandley; first aid, Messrs R. MeWi!â€" lfams, E. Uren and H. Costain ; radio, The young people of the United Church, South Poreupine, held a very successful snowâ€"shoe and ski hike across the lake to Golden City on Thursday evening, March 7th. . They were met there by a group of young people from Golden City and were entertained in the public school. A. very interesting programme of singâ€" ing and games was followed by reâ€" freshments. ‘The young people proâ€" nounce the event a decided success. G. Rowe. Thewwork is supervised by Rev. F. J. Baine. < The keen interest of the parents, in this useful work, is earnestly solicited. At the close of each Sunday evenâ€" ing service in the United Church a musical programme is conducted by the choir. This programme consists of sacred instrumental and vocal music, interspered by congregational singing. All who wish to attend are heartily welcome. On Thursday evening, March 8th, a lively game of hockey, between the Ankerite snd Dome Lake Mines, was witnessed by a small group of enthusiâ€" astic spectators. Dome Lake had the best of the play throughout but the Ankerite team was by no means outâ€" eclassed. The score was 6â€"2 in favoutr ef Dome Lake, Ray Sampson, Jerry Banning and D. On Wednesday, March 7th, the Porcupine Hockey Club, en route to Toronto, played an exhibition game with Sudbury, the local team winning by a 4â€"1 score. Jemmett was the leading scorer for Poreupine with two tallies. _ McHutchison and Saunders each netted the puck once. President Raynor, Viceâ€"President P. Richards, Treasurer R. Cameron, and Trainers H. Robinson and W. Deacon accomâ€" panied the team to Toronto. â€"The Poreupine team is now )n search of the Allan Cup.â€" We wish them suceess. uns ce On Friday evening, March 9th at 4.00 o‘clock the Explorers‘ Hockey team played the ‘‘Bear Cats‘‘ to a scoreless tie at the South Poreupine arena. These youngsters put up a real game and will be watched in their develpment, with interest. Dr. A. H. The score was nothing all. The boys were severely penalized under a code of‘rules drafted for the occasion. Boys, look to your laurels! On Thursday evening, March 8th, W. Brooks‘ team won the Plllsworth Cup by defeating A. Bucovetsky s team 13â€"6. The winning team is as follows:â€"lead, J. Alexander; second, E. Rapsey; vice-skip, S. Pearce; skip‘, W. Brooks. Commencing this week, if weather permits a new competition will comâ€" mence for the Sky Cup. This ought to mean high scoxes. The Cornish Club of South Poreuâ€" pine held its regular fortnightly dance on Saturday, March 10th, at the Oddâ€" fellows‘ Hall. The dance was preâ€" ceded by a box social. with the usual brisk bidding. ‘The highest bidder was Sol Sky who won the prize for highest bidding. He donated it to the Club and it was sold for the beneâ€" fit of the club. Mrs. Stringer won first prize for best box, ‘Miss iPearl Milléer taking second. The prizes were donated ‘by Mrs. Goodland, preâ€" sident of the club. On Monday night, March 12th, Mrs. Lang of the New York Pmcuopme entertained at bridge. Mr. F. Farâ€" rant was the first prize winner while Mr. McKenzie was ‘the consolation prize winner. y # 4 â€" zNt % Don‘t miss the United Chureh Ladies Guild play to be staged next Tuesday, March 20th, at the Majesâ€" tic theatre. The play is entitled ‘Her Honor the Mayor,‘‘ and as the title suggests is full of comedy. There will be special attractions put on between acts. The attendance was not so large as on previous guest nights of the.Club, the South Poreupineâ€"Port Colborne Hockey match, and the observance of Lenten season interfering with the atâ€" tendance. The best of music was provided by Tommy Stephens and his orchestra. An enjoyable luncheon was also servâ€" ed during the evening. Lo i MUCH LOCAL INTEREST IN SsoOUTH END HOCKEY TEAM There~was a lot of interest shown locally in the Colborneâ€"South Poreupine Hockey match on Monday evening. Returns were received at the offices of Arthur E. Moysey Co. and Homer L. Gibson Co., and both places were crowded to the doors by fans, supporting in the majority the team â€" representing the Porcupine Camp in the south. The result was received with evident pleasure, the second tie game the South Enders playing in proving that hockey is very much alive in this district,. _ South Poreupine on Saturday tied 2â€"2 with Port Colborne in Toronto, and playâ€" ing on Monday in the home district of the O.H.A. champions, a tie score of 1â€"1 speaks well for the brand of hockey put up by the South Poreupine The next Rambler‘s Guest Night will be on Monday evening, April 9th, (Easter Monday).
