HARDâ€"TIMES PARTY WAS VERY ENJOYABLE EVENT A Hardâ€"Times party was held the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. P land, 25 Middleton avenue, on 1 day ‘evening, Feb. 3rd, for th splints made on the spot, and then each boy contributing his Boy Scout staff a stretcher was built and the supposedly injured boy was carried to the hut some distance away. _ This feature was staged in very capable way and roused much interest among the boys. Some of them realized how helpless they would be in case of an actual acceident such as the one stagâ€" ed. That was really the purpose of introducing the feature,â€"to impress on the boys the usefulness of a knowledge of first arid. The troop is to receive lessons in first aid from the Timmins brigade of the St. John Amâ€" bulance, and it was to get the boys ~pocmll\' interested that the accident was staged. As one lad remarked, ‘*It would be great to know just what to do and how to do it if one of the boys was really to be hurt."‘ } A very interesting time was spent by the boys, who had both fun and information. _ One of the features was a faked accident. One of the boys was supposed to break his leg, and the other lads were expected to care for him. The lads ‘*set"‘‘ the leg as well as could be done under the cirâ€" cumstances, put the ‘‘injured leg""‘ in splints made on the spot, and then occurrences. between each on the day‘s 1 In the troop there being a hike. hike,""‘ t note of BOV SGOUTS HAVE SN HIKE DN SATURDAY LAST Many Interesting Features Including Accident and First Aid Service vice master J. Saturday early they had the opportunity to jump twice. In the practice Eric Bredenâ€" berg had the misfortune to injure his shoulder and Captain Sundberg conâ€" sequently would not allow him to enâ€" ter any of the competitions, as he feared that injury might result. The tournament started upon the arrival of His Exeellency the (Goverâ€" norâ€"General Viscount Willingdon. Rain had commenced falling shortly after noon and with a very strong zale blowing combined to make the jumping extremely difficult and danâ€" gerous. Some very bad spills were taken on the hill, but, with exception of broken skis and fittings, without serious accidents. serious accidents. (On Sunday the party was presented to His Excellency, the Governorâ€"Genâ€" eral, Viscount ‘Willingdon, and Lady Willingdon, _ and they both evinced great interest in that part of the North represented by P.S8.C. and the tremendous advances made up here the last few years. Ski Club was warmly congratulated and assured of the heartiest support of the Canadian Ski Association in their endeavours to promote skiâ€"ing in the| North. Had the race been 2 miles longer Roguar doubtless would have finished among the first 3, as he was fresh and strong at the finish. His strength and endurance was parâ€" ticularly noticeable in long dragging uphill and while many tried no one could keep up with him in climbing. When considering the fact that the ail was laid in the roughest part of the Gatineau Hills and knowi ing that I\U"‘lldl} is aceustomed to flat country skiâ€"ing it is understandable why the local skiers are proud of him. Those disposing of cars should see Mr. Garâ€" ner at once, and those buying the ‘ars should also assure themselves that they are following the law in the matter. Last week at South Poreupine police court there were a couple of cases where men were charged with breach of the law in the matter of not transferring licenses in cases where cars had been sold. The Tisdale police say unless there is proper obâ€" servance of the law in this respect there will be a further number of the same sort of cases. Cars have been sold and are being run without the licenses ‘being transferred, this being contrary to law and good sense. When a car is sold the necessary steps should at once be taken for the transâ€" fer of license, ete. _ Thore is no exâ€" cuse for failure to do this now, as it is not necessary to write to Toronto in the matter. The number selected by the association as the most acceptible was ‘‘one thousand *‘ (1000). _ It is hoped to have this number accepted and used in all the North Land towns as the teleâ€" phone call for fire halls. The change will not take place, however, until 1929, as new telephone directories for the Temiskaming Telephone Co. are now being printed and it is too late to put the plan in operation in the southern part of the district this year. gates present to give assistance and coâ€"operation in creating public supâ€" port for the further expenditures and extended measures. The forests, he said, meant an anâ€" nual wealth of $120,000,000â€"a reâ€" source second only to agriculture in Ontario. The last century had meant an appalling loss of forest wealth to the Province, and at the present rate of consumption the end of the white pine resources would be reached in 50 years,. â€" He explained the Government policy of encouraging farmers and counties in Southern Ontario to use a certain percentage of their land in which to plant trees provided by the Province; the work of the aeroplane fire patrol to combat forest tires, and the sealing up of lands (unsuited for agriculture) for forestry purposes. ‘‘Timber is just as much a crop as wheat is,"‘ he declared. **Timber should be a farm, and the mistake in the past has been in treating it like a mine.‘‘ UNIFORM FIRE TELEPHONE CALL FOR ALL THE NORTH In an address at Ontario Association hibitions held at t Hotel, Toronto, last Finlayson made fore providing for_ grea by the (Government the programme â€" Hon.
