\Officers Elected and Prospects Good for Coming Season‘s \ Hockey. To be Strictly "Home Brew." North Bay and \sudbury Following Same Lines This Year. Junior Hockey Organized in Timmins for the Season There was a fairly good attendance at the meeting called in the fire hall on Thursday evening last, Aug. l1th, for the organization for Junior hoekey in Timmins for the season. The meetâ€" ing was enthusiastic, and there was a general agreement that the signs proâ€" mised a good season for the sport. The chief hu\lll(‘\w of the meeting was they election of officer, but lmoke} maters in were also disâ€" eussed. The following were the offiâ€" cers elected :â€"â€" Honorary presidentsâ€"J. H. Knox, C. G. Williams, R. J. Ennis, Rev. J. D. Parks and Rev. Fr. O‘Gorman. Honorary _ viceâ€"presidentsâ€"Mayor E. L. Longmore, Dr. J. E. I. Joyal, Dr. J. A. Melnnis, Fire Chief Borland. Presidentâ€"KR. D. Parker, First viceâ€"presidentâ€"C. . Keddic. Second vice=presidentâ€"R. E. Dye. Secretaryâ€"treasurerâ€"P. T. Moisley. Executiv»o committeeâ€"W . G. Smith, W, D. Melintyre, and one to be apâ€" pointed from the players. Coachâ€"J. Seully. Trainersâ€"A. Hunter and W. 4 MeHugh, Jr. One that was agreed upon was that Junior heckey here this seaâ€" son will be a strictly ‘*home brew"‘ affair. No players have been importâ€" ed and none are to be brought in. It is beliteved that there is enough talent in the line of ho@gey alrezady in the town and 4 to assure a firstâ€" ‘*If there is a finer looking country anywhere than our Western Ontario at the present season we would like to see it,"‘ says The Journalâ€"Argus, of St. Mary‘s Ontario. In reply The Advance would invite The Jurnalâ€"Argus to come and see the stretch of wonderful country between Englehart and New Liskeard. There is not mlhing more attractive in any country at any time. The Barrie Examiner speaks in complimentary terms of the good work done by the Provincial Police in the clearing up of the crime situation in the "Beeton district. The praise given by the Barrie newspaper may be well deâ€" served, but The Advance regrets that the Provincial Police are not entitled to similar commendation in regard to serious crimes in this North Land. There have been several murders in this Nortll Land where justice has apâ€" parently failed to function. The most striking case is that of the cowardly murder last October of Inspector Constable at Cochrane. Inspector Conâ€" stable was a man of high character and agreeable disposition ; he had served his contry with faithfulness and efficiency in peace and in war. It is beâ€" lieved that he met his death because of his loyalty to duty. The Provincial Police have apparently b een unable or unwilling to bring the cowardly asâ€" sassin of Inspector Constable to justice. The Provincial Police may have their place in dealing successfully with cattle rustling and thefts, but in the case of murder their success has not been so good. The answer to all this, appears to be that if the Provincial Police can not succeed in capturing the assassin of Inspector Constable, the services of others should be secured until justice triumphs. Until the murderer of this loyal officer and good citiâ€" zen is brough to justice the Province is shamed, and â€" the underworld triumphs The T. N. 0. Railway and its employees at various centres deserve creâ€" dit and compliment for the part taken in giving a good impression of the North Land. Travellers by train are always pleased and impressed by the beanty spots they find at many of the stat, ions along the line. The flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns, so beautiful and wellâ€"kept, do more than pages of printed publicity to emphasize the fertility of the North Land, and to prove that this is a land of natural beauty, where flowers appear to love to bloom and trees to blossom and grass to take on the deepest and richest green. In giving the visitor a fair idea of the North Land, the station gardens at Engleâ€" hart, Temagami, Uno Park, Porquis Junetion, North Cobalt, Cobalt, New Liskeard and Swastika deserve a special mention. As first impressions of the places concerned they are impressive, while their value to the North Land from their effect on the visitor is also worthy of consideration. a great advantage to the people of the North in many ways. It will help to make this country better known by attracting tourists here. Indirectly it will bring capital here for the development of the resources of the North. But it will not meet all the needs of the North. It will not serve all the purâ€" poses of agricultural development. For this more roads are needed. This is especially true in the settled districts along the Transcontinental west of Cochrane. It is true about the agricultural and mining country of the Porâ€" ‘cupine. It is true about practically all sections of this North. The great need of this North Land is roads, and more roads. In the appreciation of the benefits of the Ferguson highway, neither people nor Government should forget the further needs of the North,â€"needs so great in the way of roads for settlement and industry that they must be considered only in terms of big money. The great need of the North Land toâ€"day, as las is Roads and More Roads. And every dollar invested for needed roa promisâ€" ing country will bring returns that will fully warrent the ex ‘es made. The Ferguson highway is completed. It is a eredit to the Ferguson Government, and the people of the North Land very rightly appreciate it. This trunk road will do much to open up this North Land and hasten the development of the resources of the country. Undoubtedly, it is a remarkâ€" able achievement. But it will not do to sit down contentedly and say that the trunk road is finished and so all is accomplished. The trunk road will be THE GREAT NEED OF THE NORTH LA ND IS ROADS AND MORE ROADS TIMMINS, ONTARIO, THURSDAY, AUGUST 18th, 1927 Thursday, August 18th, 1927 Canada Office 26 TIMMINS, ONTARIO. Of course, Timmins Juniors will enter the N.O.H.A., and whether or not they win out they exâ€" peet to have a good season‘s sport, which is the big thing. It may be noted that both North Bay and Sudâ€" bury this year are following the, same plan as that adopted by Timmins and these towns in the N.0O..H.A. Juniors are not importing any players. If this plan can be followed out for a year or two it will be surprising the quality of the teams that will be deâ€" veloped. as the hockey talent is plentiâ€" ful enough in this North Land.
