PROVINCE SHOULD TAKE SPONSIBILITY FOR THEM. * For several years past The Adâ€" vance has been urging that the Onâ€" tario Government should assume the place of the municipality in those sections of the North Land where there is no organized municipality. If the province would do this it would solve a number of problems in this part of the North. In an organized municipality no one need suffer negâ€" lect in case of illness, accident or death. Doctors and others are proâ€" tected in case the patient can not pay. The municipality has to see to the e Euacha case of indigents within its borders. In the case of unorganized sections, however, there is no one now to take the Neighbouring muncipaliâ€" ties are â€" constantly suffering loss through this flaw in the law. â€" The Advance believes that the province being the only organization receiving any revenue from unorganized terviâ€" tory, should accept the responsibility for all residents of unorganized townâ€" ships. Let the province take the place of the municipality in allâ€"unâ€" organized territory ‘and a large group of problems will be solved automaticâ€" ally. All of this is but preface to an editorial from a recent issue of The North Bay Nugget. The problem reâ€" ferred to by Dr. George would be one of those_ solved if the province acted as the municipality in the case of unâ€" organized municipalities. George, of North Bay, speaking in Toâ€" ronto before the Ontario Health Offiâ€" cers‘ Associationâ€"on Wednesday. â€" Dr. George urged that legislation should be enacted for providing medical asâ€" sistance to struggling settlers in the districts of the province. He pointed out that under the present act, in unâ€" organized districts the government asâ€" sumes the bill for hospital attention but will not for medical assistâ€" ance; Settlers brought, into unorgaâ€" nized‘townships by the government often find themselves unable to pay for medical treatment and the result is that doctors have to shoulder the burden without any hope of being paid for their services. o e e 2 _ About twentyâ€"five hotelmen _ of Northern Ontario will hold a conferâ€" ence on July 20th,. The conference will be addressed by Major S. J. Roâ€" bins, of Toronto, managing director of the association, and it is probable ‘that George H. O‘Neil, president of the association and viceâ€"president of the United Hotelâ€"men‘s Association, will be a member of the party. After the North Bay conference, the hotelâ€" men will make a tour of Northern Onâ€" tario, visiting Sudbury, Sault: Ste. Marie, the Twin Cities and probably towns along the T. N. O., though the itinerary has not been definitely settled yet. b EOmE ©Another matter that requires atâ€" tention in the North is that of the wovernment relieving. municipalities of indigent patients to a certain exâ€" tent. Frequently men who driffâ€"into North Bay and other points searching for work are taken ill and, in many cases, it is the municipalities who foot the bill for people who are only transients. Some mpnths ago a moveâ€" ment was started to hold a .conference on this question in North Bay, beâ€" tween Hon. Dr. Forbes Godfrey, Minâ€" ister of Health and Labour, and offiâ€" cials of municipalities in the North. Recently little has been heard of this It is to be hoped that the towns and cities interested are not going to let it die a natural death and that they will continue to urge it until action is secured from the provincial governâ€" ment. 3 9 Mr. J. P. Watson, Mining Corporaâ€" tion president, recently returned from Englang, tells The Northern Minér that he found much improved sentiâ€" ment in mining investment circles toward â€"the Canadian â€" industry.. ‘‘The steady expansion of ore: reâ€" sources, the substantial discoveries in many new fields, are whetting the interest of important people. The Mining Congress this summer will inâ€" clude among its visitors many very prominent men, who perhaps won‘t have much to say but who will do a great deal of quiet personal investiâ€" gation. Toward the end of the year we may see money commg in from very responsible houses.‘ FIRST CASE IN NORTH O PERMIT BEING CANC ED (The first case of a liquor ing cancelled in this North Lind was last from Kirkland Lake. .
