The writer is a taxâ€"payer, an oldâ€"time resident of the town, and a firstâ€"class good citizen. He is enâ€" titled to every consideration for his views, and ‘he expresses in effective way what appears to be the general opinion of the electors. The electors of Timmins, as * Fair Play‘*‘ suggests, are not likely to allow themselves to be «deceivedâ€" again by the absurd misrepresentations used by the supâ€" porters of the New Council who apâ€" pear to be ready to do or say anything to get support. â€" Surely, the town durâ€" ing the past nine months has suffered enough to warrant absolute disreâ€" gard of all the «crooked attempts to becloud the issue. The one issue in the coming municipal election is whether the town is to secure efficient, honest businessâ€"like and competent administration or to be cursed with another ‘term of the silly muddlers and bitter botchers.~ The following is the letter from ‘‘Fair Play,""‘ who accompanied his letter with his signaâ€" ture as required by the rules:â€" ATTRIBUTE SPECIAL GIFTS TO CHRISTMAS CHILDREN. Christmas is one time in the year when sentiment is generally given full reign, and when even the most materâ€" ialistic are prone to think upon things that are not altogether of the earth. Accordingly it is not remarkable that all sorts of legends and beliefs should centre round Christmas and all things in any way connected, directly or inâ€" directly, with Christmas. _ In many countries of the world there still exists a belief that people bormn cn Christmas Day have the power of healing by the ‘‘laying on of hands,"‘ and also possess second sight. There are several other superstitions conâ€" nected with ‘*Christmas children,"" one of which is that theyâ€"are able to excel in music. They are also acereâ€" dited with possessing abnormal intelliâ€" zsence. In the South of England many folks believe that boys born on Christâ€" mas Day are destined to become clergymen, while the girls ought to become nurses. It is supposed that they will suecceed in these occupations. Should they decide not to follow them. however, their lives will be dismal failures. DUPRAT MINES BEGINS ITS ELECTRICAL SURVEY Timmins, Ont., Dec.. 18th, 1926. To The Editor of The Advance. ‘*Local Option‘‘ with municipal matâ€" ters. One of the startling misrepreâ€" sentations made would read about like this:â€"‘‘It will be the height of inconsistency to elect a Mayor and Council in Timmins for the coming year who are opposed to a Governâ€" ment dispensary for Timmins."‘ Those who make such misleading statements do not give the. electors brains enough to know that the above sort of statement has no foundation bearing on a municipal election, and is nothing more nor less than rank propaganda, and that no Mayor or Council, whether opposed to or in favour of a liquor dispensary has the power to prevent the establishment of a Government dispensary here. The electors of Timmins have alâ€" ready cast their vote in flavour of Government Control, and there is no reason why a liquor dispensary should not be established in Timmins. I wish to make this point quite clear,â€"that no Mayor or Council can obstruct the establishment of a disâ€" pensary, without a majority or petition from THE ELECTORS. No doubt those who, for selfish and improper reasons, are cireulating this propaganda, are well aware of its unâ€" Dear Sir:â€"A few days ago my atâ€" tention was drawn to an organized propaganda being carried on in reâ€" gard to the supposed connection of Correspondent Points Out that Neither Mayor or Council for 1927 Will Have Anything to do With the Question of a Liquor Dispensary. Resents Abuse of Councillor Longmore. Work commenced last week on Duâ€" prat Mines in connection with the survey which is being made by the Swedish Electrical Company. Fresh from the Area and Amulet where very favourable results were achieved, the operation of this scientific prospecting device is being watched with interest on Duprat. An area about 500 feet in length by 150 feet in width has been found to be mineralized on Duprat, and the survey now commenced is for the purâ€" pose of locating the centre of conâ€" centrated values. Once this can be determined, a diamond drill will be used to draw cores from the richer seeâ€" tion. Test pits to a depth of 20 feet have shown the ore becoming massive on Duprat, with analyses of around 20 per cent. copper. However, as there is a considerable section where heavy overburden prevents trenching being done, it was considered best to first make the electrical survey before selecting location for a central deâ€" velopment shaft. | When a woman first learns To drive a car, She may not be nervousâ€" But her neighbors are‘ SAFETY FIRST truthfulness and unfairness, but they are ready to grasp at the last straw to throw into the balance, in an endeavrour to keep in office those whom I perceive are taking undeservâ€" ed eredit for accomplishing things that were started from one to two vyears, and more, before they took office. There is also particular resentment felt by all decentâ€"minded and reaâ€" sonable people relative to abuse and misrepresentation heaped upon Counâ€" cillor Longmore. The propaganda by J. B. in this line is especially unfair, and it is no wonder he does not openâ€" ly father his ‘‘gravel and sand!‘‘ in this particular. Personally, my opinâ€" ion, and the opinion of many others, is one of surprise that Councillor Longmore has been able at all to tolerate the attitude of obstruction adopted as part of a general proâ€" gramme by the members of the NEW Council, and those other selfâ€"seekers who tried to suppress everything unâ€" favourable to the New Council (some job!), and to magnify every occeasionâ€" al little thing of any The rateâ€" payers got a oneâ€"sided story; this I know from observation; and it was well that we had The Advance to give the full facts and expose the proâ€" paganda. _ The consensus of opinion is that Councillor Longmore bore with creat fortitude an unenviable postâ€" tion. Why are the backers of the New Council alarmed at the possibility of the election of a Mayor who is of unâ€" impeachable character, and a man of great integrity,â€"one who would adâ€" minister the town affairs in an able and businessâ€"like manner, without fear or favour, ‘but as we know from past experience, with all broadmindâ€" edness. L cR MISSING RED LAKE MEN NOW ARE REPORTED SAFPE. The Hollinger employees do not reâ€" quire to be told how, or who to vote for, as the propaganda peddlers seem to imagine. It is quite apparent to many that the propaganda carried on to falsely bolster up the New Council has done much towards making a breach in the town hall, instead of bending every effort towards unity in the administration at the town hall. [ firmly believe that at the coming election the electors will strive to elect a council who will work for the best interests of Timmins, and not for notoriety. COPPER REPORTED ALSO IN BEATTY TOWNSHIP Interest in copper finds are specialâ€" ly keen at present in this district. Rouyn started the ball going. Now Kamiskotia is in the limelight. Then last week Munro township came in for publicity on account of the find there by Mr. R. 8. Potter, of Matheâ€" son. Next comes Beatty township as a claimant to copper fame. A wriâ€" ter in The Northern Miner last week ‘*‘I have followed with keen interâ€" est articles appearing recently in reâ€" gard to prospecting for copper in eastern Ontario. On my property in Beatty Township, in Lot 8, Con. V and VI, on the south shore of, Painâ€" killer Lake, there is an outcropping of what appears to be a considerable mass that is decidedly magnetic, so much so that the campass is deflected at some distance. In 1912 I had a shot down two or three feet and an assay showed 43 lbs. copper, 6 lbs. nickel and a fiair trace of gold and silver. If the nickel caused the interâ€" ference with the compass, which I presume is the case, the body must be of considerable size. ~There was no indication of veins. The rock was blackish in colour and fine graimed. The Red Lake prospectors who went astray in a blizzard and were missing for several days have been located bv Provincial Police. District Inspector J. H. Putnam wired from Port Arthur to Toronto last week the following message to General V. A. S. \\'fllldms, Police Commissioner : ‘*Missing men from Gold Pines loâ€" cated. Short of rations but all safe. Report will follow. said :â€"â€" It certainly makes one curious to know their cause for alarm. There must be a nigger in the w oodpile. Yours truly, FPAIR PLAY. I had a piece of the rock about the size of a man‘s head in our office at Hearst when it â€"with the town was burned in 1914. After the fire I found the rock disintegrated to a powder."‘ Winnipeg, â€" Manitoba. â€"Traftic in ecrain from Winnipeg along the Canaâ€" dian Pacific Railway lines this year is heavier than last year by over 12,â€" 000,000 bushels. _ With 110,298,085 bushels marketed and 63,0010 cars loaded the increases over last year‘s ten month period were 12,188,437 bushels and 3.338 cars.
