The preâ€" sentation of a seat to a candidate, a high compliment at any time, was never more so than now, when many groups are arrayed under their severâ€" al banners against the Government and are busy confusing the issues. Mr. MeCrea owes nothing to the magâ€" nanimity of the Raneyâ€"Sinclairâ€"Ben Spence connection, The honour of an uncontested election is his because he has the confience of Conservatives and Liberals throughout his riding. That confidence he has worthily earned by his fine record at the head of one of the most important departments of the Government. _ Among Mr. Mcâ€" Crea‘s predecessors entrusted with the administration of the Province‘s mineral affairs were some able men, but none of them rendered public service comparable to his. We have said that his department is one of the Everyone feels that the acclamation given to Hon. Chas. MceCrea was ‘a wellâ€"merited mark of appreciation for his services to the North Land and to all Ontario. He has served his own constituency with a rare loyalty and wellâ€"placed effort. He has given an effective and earnest and wholeâ€" souled service as a member of the Cabinet, that has meant a great deal indeed for the mining industry and for the North. Mr. McCrea is a Northern Ontario man who knows that great reâ€" gion as no other man in our public life knows it. He has a vision of its future whiclris an inspiration to him. His heart is in Ontario‘s Northland, and he has enlisted all his fellowâ€" Ministers in the work of forwarding its development. If the whole of Northern Ontario were a single conâ€" stituency to elect a man to hold oftice for it in the Cabinet, nobody else would have a chance against Hon. Some days ago the combined choirs of New Liskeard, assisted by artists from Haileybury and Cobalt, gave a choral concert that was a ‘*most wonderful musical and financial sueâ€" cess,""‘ to quote the review of The Speaker on the event. The attendâ€" ance exceeded 600, which is a very large audience for an event of this kind in a town no larger than New Liskeard. _ The crowd, by insistent applause and encores, showed its very decided appreciation for the several items on the programme, and there can be no doubt but that the event was a very helpful and satisfactory one for the people of that town. The programme, as published by The Speaker, shows a pleasing list of numâ€" bers, all selections being real music, and all exceedingly well presented. The Speaker, gives special commendaâ€" tion to the leader, Mr. Geo. J. White, for the succeess of the event, while complimenting the members of the choirs on the excellence of the proâ€" gramme. It is mot out of to point out that the event also owed much of its success to the good work of The Speaker, which gave the chorâ€" al concert publicity in advance, and is now tendering the merited words of praise that are so encouraging. As the oldest newspaper in the North, The Speaker no dowbt recalls the earlier days when the people themâ€" selves had to make all their own enâ€" tertainment‘and amusement. No one will know more clearly thanâ€" The Speaker the value of music to this North, and the distinet benefit to the country from the advantage it has had from the fact that there have been so many talented musicians takâ€" ing up residence in the North. The North has drawn its population from all over the world, and in its cosmoâ€" politan people the percentage of musiâ€" callyâ€"gifted men and women has been very large. Music is everywhere a comfort, a solace and a means of lastâ€" ing pleasure, and in this North it has proved, and is every day proving the truth of this idea.
