Blahey is erecting a fine store building at the corner of Bireh avenue and First avenue. Another attractive business centreyon the main street is the MecGregor block which has recently undergone alterations and will be opened in a few days by Mr. Sky, with a stock of general dry goods. General regret was felt in the town when it was learned that Mr. Joseph Leighton, our popular bank manager, was to be transferred to Toronto. Mr. Leighton has filled his position with dignity, and has always been obliging and courteous to those with whom he came in cgontact. Mrs. Leighton also will missed among the ladies qfé@the town. _ Mr. and (Mrs. Leighton and family left on Wednesâ€" day for their new home in the Queen City. Elseâ€" where in this issue will be found a list of the prizes. Read it over. The new donation is from the A. E. Moysey Co. stock brokers. _ The firm gives $100.00 in cash, the money to ‘be used in buying turkeys for the prize winners in the Whiskerino Conâ€" test. â€" This will mean that the turkeys will be the finest, the biggest, the fattest and the best. Speaking of the Whiskerino conâ€" test, entries have apparently not yet ceased. The latest entry is (Geo. Lamanek, of Timmins,, who added his name on Saturday. He has only five weeks to catch up on the rest of the crowd in the growing of whiskers, but he is confident he can do it. ‘"Just watch the smoke of my whisâ€" kers,""‘ he says. Everybody is watchâ€" ing all the Whiskerino entries, and at present it looks as if either a dark horse, or a grey horse would win out. Wait and see. And in the meantime read the list of prizes and other parâ€" ticulars in this week‘s advertisement of the Charity Turkey Stag, as given elsewhere in this issne. The yew subâ€" way is practically completed now and is a noteworthy improvement in every way. The standing water on the roadway, motorists especially will be pleased to learn is not a regular feaâ€" ture of the fine new structure put up by the T. N.0O. railway, but is simply one of those accidents that may hapâ€" pen oceasionally.. Blocking of a couple of drains is understood to have been responsible for the generâ€" ous collection of water under the subâ€" way.
