On Thursday last they journeyed out to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Parnell, where a very pleasant evening was spent. â€" Mr. Parnell won the gent‘s first prize for the evening while the honors for the ladies was carried off by Mrs, J. Raynor and Mr. Hannaley were each consoled with other prizes. _ The ‘‘eats‘‘ were dainty <â€" and abundant and after their trip out from here and their strenuous playing we hear that the members from South Poreupine did ample justice to them. There are about twenty members in this club and they have one social evening per week.> The host and hostess for this week are Mr. and Mrs. H. Miller. Wilson is in Toronto visitâ€" ing at her former home. The Annual At Home of the Oddâ€" fellows was well attended and everyâ€" body had a happy time. Euchre and Bridge were played upstairs while in the hall downstairs those who preferâ€" red to follow the terpischorean art enjoyed themselves to their heart‘s content. _ Colombo‘s orchestra supâ€" plied their usual fine music.. Mrs. Max Smith won the â€"ladies‘ prize in bridge, a set of bridge cards.in a hbandsome leather case; Mr. A. Taylor won the men‘s prize at bridge and Mr. A. E. Taylor the consolation. In euchre the ladies first was won by Mrs Mitchell, while Mr. Max Rosenbaum won the gent‘s first, and Mr. Jekylis the consolation. _ The refreshments were of the best and the Oddfellows very assiduously looked after their guests, seeing ‘that none were over? looked. Presentation to Mr. and Mrs. W. G. A. Woods. THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO. Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. Wilson Lang of Timmins were guests at the home of Mrs. E. J. Rapsey this week. Mrs. Lang and Mrs. Rapsey were girlhood friends in Eastern Ontario but one became a Westerner and now after fourteen years they meet again in this Northland, where it seems as though the old adage was broken and that no longer ‘*‘West is West and East is East and never the twain shall meet,"‘‘ but more often * Though West be West and East be East this Northâ€" land of our doth draw them all." On Saturday evening about twentyâ€" five ladies gathered at the home of Mrs. F. C. Evans to say ‘‘Goodâ€"bye‘‘ to Mrs. W. G. A. Woods and wish her bon voyage to her new home in Toâ€" ronto. During the evening Miss Carâ€" mel LaForest presided at the piano and entranced her hearers with the brilliancey and the variety of her muâ€" sical repertoire. Just before lunch the friends of Mrs. Woods gathered around her and upon Mrs. A. Kinâ€" caid‘s reading the address, presented her with a handsome club bag. The address was bound with the colours of the Order of the Eastern: Star, of which Mrs. Woods is a Past Worthy Matron, having been a much esteemed officer and charter member of Poreuâ€" pine Chapter since its inauguration. The following is the address to which Mrs. Woods very feelingly replied :â€" ‘Dear Mrs. Woods:â€"A few of your friends have assembled here toâ€"night to express their regrets at your deâ€" parture, but we are not altogether inâ€" Archdeacon Woodall and Bishop Anâ€" derson,â€" the morning service taking place at 11 a.m., a children‘s service and christening in the afternoon at twoâ€"thirty, and an evening service at 7.30 p.m. On Monday evening, Nov. 30th, the Women‘s Auxiliary are havâ€" ing a dinner and eoncert in the Masonic Hall, the dinner being served from six to eight, after which a fine programme has been prepared for preâ€" sentation. The Opening Services of the Anâ€" glican Church will be held on Sunday, Nov. 29th. There will be three serâ€" vices during the day conducted hy Mww. Robt. Bennett visited her husâ€" band in the Haileybury Hospital this week. Mr. Bennett is now making good grogress towards recovery. their official eapacity. The many friends in town of Miss Elda Dempsey of Cochrane will be pleased to know that she is now makâ€" ing splendid recovery after a seven weeks‘ siege of rheumatie fever. Miss Dempsey was a very popular visitor in town during the past sumâ€" mer when she spent some time with her sister, Miss Vera, our assistant postmistress. Mr. D. C. Fellowes, road inspector, left on Sunday for a month‘s holiday at his home in Toronto. He will then assume his duties at Kapuskasing, Ont. new home and undertaking. Mr. and Mrs. Woods left on Monâ€" day for their home in Foronto. Don‘t forget to see ‘*‘The Advenâ€" tures of (Grandpa,‘‘ being put on by the Dramatie Club for the Anglican Church building fund. It is a real laughâ€"getter. W. 8. Mitchell, of Iroquois Falls, spent the weekâ€"end in town. â€"Sheriff Mackay, of Cochrane spent last Saturday in town. C. Sackaberry spent a few days in town this week settling his affairs beâ€" fore leaving for his new position at Kapuskasing, ‘Ont. Miss parents end. Among. those present were Mesâ€" dames W. W. Wilson, H. M. Wilson, D. MeLellan, J. Ostrom, C. Morgan, A. Kincaid, M. Smith, T. J. Wright, E. Rapsey, D. Frood, 8. Pearce, J. Herâ€" man, W. Fairhurst, C. Melnnis, F. Dowzer, P. Michaud, and from Timâ€" minsâ€"Mesdames G. Gauthier, 8. Hatrâ€" dy, F. Hamilton and W. H. Phillips. After serving of a most delightful luncheon, danceing was enjoyed. Un the same evening at a Smoker riven in his hqonour by about twenty of his friends at the home of Mr. C. Mcinnis, Mr. W. G. A.
