Nov. 22nd, after the church services. This season‘s concerts have proved specially popular and the one on Sunday evening is expected to be even better than any of its predecesâ€" sors. A special programme has been prepared, including selections by the Timmins Citizens‘ Band together with other instrumental numbers and voeâ€" al selections by artists of outstandâ€" ing ability. The fourth indoor band concert this season ‘will be held in the Goldâ€" field Theatre on Sunday evening, FOURTH BAND CONCERT ON sUNDAY EVENING mins went south a couple of years ago on a moose hunt near North Bay. He shot at a particularly big moose that had a great pride in his own‘fine looks. All the shot accomplished was to disfigure one ear of that moose, spoiling the handsome appearance of the animal.© Last year the moose overheard other hunters talking of the incident, and the moose thus learned the man‘s name and address. The lordly moose this year travelled through the bush to Timmins, dragged the guilty man out of bed one night, and kiked him severely in the face. Anyone doubting this story can be shown snow similar to that which might have covered up the moose‘s tracks. Or the doubting one can read The Toronto Star regularly for six months, and then he will believe any old thing. With the ferocious wolf yarns fairâ€" ly woell discredited now, the latest daily newspaper trick now is to acâ€" cuse moose of being specially wild this year. Despatches cite supposed cases of vicious attacks by big moose on hunters from the far South. If these are true then likely the followâ€" ing is also a fact. A man from Timâ€" a little in advance of Soulier when he heard the latter shout and turning around saw several wolves around the guide, who had only his axe. With only a couple of bullets in his rifle, Father McGuinn was aiming at one which was cireling around when Souâ€" lier drew his attention to one, a sceant 20 feet from him. Father McGuinn sighted on this one, but something frighted the wolves and they disapâ€" peared on the run. | ‘‘Another incident has been added to the tales in connection with the old controversy as to whether wolves will attack a human being. Father O. T. McGuinn, of Grand Rapids, on his yearly hunting trip here reports seeing wolves near (Glendale, seemingly on the point of attacking Billy Soulier, of (iarden River, who was acting as his guide. Father McGuinn had shot a fine moose in a swamp and they were cutâ€" ting a trail to make it possible for the horse to drag the animal out. He was In the latest ‘‘wolf story‘‘ a priest has been dragged into the story to give the old yarns new dignity. The despatches are dated, "‘Sault Ste Marie,‘"‘ and read as follows :â€"â€" ‘ Toronto newspapers last week had such headâ€"lines as ‘‘Saw Wolves Atâ€" tack Guide in Algoma,‘‘ ‘‘Priest Resâ€" cues Guide From Ferocious Wolves,"‘ ete. The despatches beneath these headings, however, do not bear out the idea of the headâ€"lines. Indeed, the despatches rather prove the conâ€" tention of oldâ€"timers that a single wolf or several wolves together will not attack a human being who is aâ€" wake and lively, but wiill rather make speedy tracks the other way when faced. Toronto newspapers are determined to have the wolves of the North ferâ€" ocious and manâ€"eating. When the despatches fail to make the wolves attack humans, the trick is done by of the North yet wait a single authenticated case where a wolf ever attacked a man in this Northern Land,â€"except in a deâ€" patch, or a headâ€"line. Makin has taken up Mr. Schroeâ€" der‘s work, with the highest recomâ€" mendation by Mr. Schroeder, and those who know Mr. Makin will aâ€" gree that‘ the recommendation is well merited. Mr. Makin is a violinist of wellâ€"known ability, having been on the theatre orchestras here for years with special satisfaction to the pubâ€" lic, and also giving other musical services, in the Timmins ‘Citizens‘ Band and elsewhere, showing himâ€" self a musician of decided talent and ability. Senior Basketâ€" ball may naturally oceupy the premier position, but the Junior teams are also going strong and playing very interestâ€" ing matches. It might add further to the attention to Junior Basketball if some other ggod sport would come forâ€" ward with a Junior Championship Trophy. Mr. L. Towers has kindly donated a handsome ecup to Senior Basâ€" ketball for competition. A team winâ€" ning the cup for three years will hold same. This season there is unusual interest in basketball, and the fine new trophy will no doubt add further to the interest and the keeness of competition between the various teams in the league.
