D. Smith, who have been in charge of the Empire Hotel since the opening of that fine hotel, left on Monday for Toronto to take up residence. During the past few months Mr. and Mrs. Smith have made many friends through the courtâ€" esy and excellent service given in the conduct of the Empire Hotel and through their general high standing as uood citizens. â€" Thete is general reâ€" gret at their leaving. Evidence of this regret was given last week when a presentation and address of appreâ€" cilation were made to Mr. and Mrs. Smith by the staff of the hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were invited to the Grill Room during the evening, and there they found the whole staff asâ€" sembled. â€" â€"An address was read exâ€" pressing the appreciation and high esteem felt for Mr. and Mrs. Smith and the good wishes for their future. Mr. Smith was presented with an eleâ€" cant and valuable writing pad for his desk, while the couple were showered with the best of good wishes. Mr. ‘P. Sammon. formerly of Pemâ€" broke, took over the management of the Empire Hotel this week, and will conduct the business so as to maintain its present high standing as "‘the Pride of the North,"‘ and the ATraâ€" vellers‘ Home."‘ \_ PRESENTATION BY HOTEL STAFF TO MR. AND MRS. SMITH On Thursday evening last week an _auto met with a mishap on the South Porcupine Road, near MceNamara‘s Camp. The cear slid over on the road and turned over into the ditch, the accident being due to the slippery con dition of the roadway. There were four in the car at the time, but forâ€" tunately all eseaped serious injury. The occupants of the car were Miss Cazz, Mrs. Sol. Silver, Mr. Sol. Silver and Mr. 8. A. Silver. All of them were bruised and cut and shaken up, but escaped any material injury, and are making good progress to complete recovery, The car was slightly damâ€" aved. L FOUR SLIGHTLY HURT IN AUTO MISHAP LAST WEEK The next Band Concert will be held in the Goldfields Theatre, after the church services, on Sunday evening next, November 8th. The programme bunu prepared is a specially good one, and: will include voecal selectlons of merit, as well as band music and other instrumental numbers. All who enjoy a good musical programme will find the band concerts of special inâ€" terest. The band concerts are being held every second Sunday, the proâ€" gramme for each event being attracâ€" tive and pleasing in e\cellence and variety. NEXT BAND CONCERT SUNDAY, NOVEMEBER 8th.
