Cadman and Roberts started down the field; Aléec was brought down with an injured leg and had to retire for three minutes for repairs, while Roberts carried the ball down and sent in a nice centre. Satrang took aâ€"shot which went wide. The teams were as follows:â€" Claremontâ€"Morgan goal ; R. Cowie and Pilkey, backs; Beverley, Barkley and Jones, halfâ€"backs; Mvans, Riddle Benson, Mitchell and _ F. Cowie, forâ€" wards. Both teams were on the pitch at 3.00 and Referee Craig got them toâ€" gether at once, and away sharp at The Timmins officials did their best to clear the field of snow and managed to get the west side clear, but the east was still covered and was very slippery when the match was called There were about 900 spectators preâ€" sent, dressed up for a hockey match instead of football. NT W ons winter weather. ~While thls not only hits the gate receipts hard, it is very unfair to. the players to be asked. to play on a snowâ€"covered field as was the case on Saturday last, when the Claremont eleven came to Timmins to play in the semiâ€"final. After the long and unnecessary deâ€" lay in the Ontario Cup roundss and further delays by the Ulster Clun, the semiâ€"final had to be played in Timmins played a fine mateh throughout. As has been said before it is not easy to pick out individual players on the team for special menâ€" tion, as they play so well as a team that it is the team work that counts. But in Saturday‘s game the way Lidâ€" dle and Hethrington played is worthy of a special note. It was the finést display this season. After the gamenin talking about their defeat the Claremont boys said the score was a big one, but there was no doubt but that the Timmins team was too much for them. ‘*You have a great team,‘‘ they said, adding that they were pleased to have played with such a team. ‘‘We‘ll be on hand to cheer you to victory when you run up «against Hamilton Westinghouse in the final‘‘ they said. They were of the . opinion that ~Timmins was ‘‘three goals better‘‘ than the Westâ€" inghouse and should sure win the Onâ€" tario Cup this year. Claremonts have a classy little team but they are a little light for Timmins. ¢Also, their backs geem to be a weak sector. Claremonts also lack the punrch in front of the net, by not following up the ball, matches. The game was an interâ€" one despite the fact that it was somewhat oneâ€"sided, the score being 7 to 1. in favour of Timmins. The seore searcely represented the resâ€" pective merits of the teams for the Claremonts play good football. Betâ€" ter still, they appear to be a firstâ€"class bunch of good sports, taking the reâ€" sult with the best of grace. All through the match there was the finest good sportsmanship on both sides. The referee was good all right and very evidently knows the game but even that will not always protect an official. Saturday, however, there was never a murmur from either side. The boys just went on and plaved football. It was good football throughnout, and though Claremonts were clearly outclassed, they proved to e a team of ability and with a courage that kept them working hard to the very last. On Saturday afternoon last Timâ€" mins Football Team qualified for the finals at Toronto, by defeating the Claremonts, the champions of Southâ€" ern Ontario, in the Ontario Cup matches. The game was an interâ€" esting one despite the fact that it was somewhat oneâ€"sided. the senra heino Timmins Proved to be Too Good for Southern Champs Claremonts Put Up Nice Game Here on Saturday, but Were Qutclassed by Local Footballers. THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO 1| a half minutes the latter scored off e| KRoberts‘ pass. _ It was a beautiful y | drive. Pettersen and Andy went 1| down again; Andy shot wide. Clareâ€" . mont took up the argument. Hethâ€" 1| erington intercepted and shot the ball back to Elrick. Benson was right t on Jimmy‘s clearance and sent the â€"| ball back. Elrick grappled it, only to. t have Riddle and Benson right on his 1| track and in getting away Jimmy was | brought down, a free kick being aâ€" warded. Caremont still pressed and had the ‘best chance of the match to Score, but Mitchell carried the ball over the goal line. . The play was transferred to the »other end. Satâ€" rang nearly seored from Street‘s pass the ball coming back into play. Satâ€" rang drove in a hot one which hit the erossbar. _ Timmins thought it was in and started to walk back to centre field. while Jones tkicked the ball to Evans, the latter getting away | and there was some nice work by Ltdâ€" dle and Hetherington in keeping the eager Claremont forward out. It was a fine display the backs gave in the way they backed one another up. A. Cadman tried one on his own and made a great rush, breaking through the backs, only to shoot wide.â€" This was followed up by a Satrang, Petterâ€" sen and Cadman rcsh. This was as fine a piece of combination as ever pulled off. Cadman passed to Petterâ€" sen. Cowie and Pilkey were waiting for him and it has them guessing. yet how Pettersen got through them to pass the ball to his fellow countryâ€" man, who scored on another great low drive; in 27 minutes. Short and Roberts on the left were turning in some great work and Roberts had some narrow shaves at scoring. He got in a beautiful shot only to have Morgan clear. Claremont went down again; Liddle again checked them up. The ball was kept in midfield for a time, until Fergy sent his brother Alex away again. This time he had the goal at.his mercy, but was conâ€" tented in passing the ball across the goalmouth instead of putting it in. Claremont took up the play again with some nice combination and finalâ€" ly got in another shot, Elrick saving. Riddle sent in another and again Jimmy savcfd. The ball went down again and after some passing cloge in Satrang got the leather by Morgan for the sixth in| 34 minutes. _ Claremont went down‘ # L3 4 E L1 The second half started with A. Cadman off the field with the second injury he received in the first half, but he came on in a few minutes. The ball went out to Roberts at the kickâ€"off and he went down in ation with Satrang and in two and hard but were unsuccessful in getting through and the change over was made with the score 3 to 1 against them, The play had been going forty minâ€" utes when Claremont broke away and succeeded in evading the Timmins backs for the first time by nice epmâ€" bination and Mitcehell finally landed the leather in the net. This put new spirit in their team and they pressed c dbA 4 Es NP aie dangerous play. Fergy got the goal kick and sent it right back. Morgan saved and got Evans and Riddle away They worked hard with their other forwards and got in close to Timmins citadel, but Liddle and Hetherington worked q heady game and gave Clareâ€" mont no chance for a shot. _ Street went away again. Pettersen ran too far and was called offfde in taking Street‘s pass. The Claremont team, started to‘ press hard on the left, working a nice combination which finished with Kiddle driving the leather over the bar. They kept up the pressure and were awarded a free kick, Evans sending over a nice shot which Cowie headed wide. This was followed with midfield play, Timmins halves keeping Claremont at bay, Cooper getting Street away again. The Jlatter‘s centre, went out of bounds. â€" Pilkey gave Timmins the first corner. Alex. shot Andy‘s flag kick wide. Roberts and Satrang have a try the latter drawing out Morgan and passed |the ball; Roberts just misssed by inches. Short got Roberts away again. Andy sentâ€" in a neat centre. There was, a scuffle for posâ€" session. Pilkey relieved by kicking clear. Cooper getting the ball, passâ€" ed it to Alec. Morgan saved at the expense of a cOrner from Alec, shot two feet out. The corner was fruitâ€" less. Satrang, Alex and Roberts went down in combination.
