Between thirty and forty sat down to the banquet table. Mr. Geo. Honer, President of South=~Porâ€" cupine Literary Club, acted as Toast Master in a very capable manner and proposed the toast to the King. The many friends of Miss Ivy Starâ€" ling will be pleased to know that the first dperation she underwent at the Mayo Institute, Rochester, U.S.A., has proven quite succeessful. Dr. Mayo wrote to her doctor here saying they now had great hopes of the beneâ€" fit their treatment would bring her. She was to undergo another operaâ€" tion the â€"latter part of the week but at the time of writing the result of this has not been heard here. A jolly erowd of our young people, about thirty allâ€"told, spent a very pleasant time at the home of Postâ€" master and Mrs. MceLenuan, on Friâ€" day evening last. The gathering was in the form of a Surprise Party. Mr. MceLennan was a partner in the secret, but Mrs. MceLennan was comâ€" pletely taken by surprise when the youth and beauty of the town trooping in. Sloan of Vinton, Quebec, is on a visit to his daucrhter, Mnrs, Cecil Cavanach. During the week, Miss Shaw, Prinâ€" cipal of our Public School, sent out notices to the parents, giving the times at which the callâ€"bell will ring. This ought to be a help in getting children to school on time as there is a bell each time, fifteen minutes before the school is called. In the more outlying districts the bell cannot be heard but it is hoped this will soon be remedied, and the teachers and classes that are there on time will not be hindered in their work by the arrival of tardy pupils. On Saturday last several of the ladies from town were out to the Bridge and Tea given by Mrs. T. Lang of the New York Poreupine, in honor of Mr. Lang‘s mother, Mrs. Robt. Lang, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. There were five tables of Bridge and all reâ€" port_a very.enjoyable afternoon. Mrs. Lang, Sr., left on Monday to returr to her home in the Soo. The Dome Ladies of the Anglican Church are giving a tea at the school house, there, on October 20th, the proâ€" ceeds to be used towards the Church Fund. _ It is expected that quite a few from town will be out to enjoy the hospitality for which the ladies of the Dome are noted. The new Anglican Churech is fast nearing completion. . At a suceessâ€" ful Vestry meeting held during the past week, all reports were so favorâ€" able that Archdeacon Woodall was very much pleased. It is thought that the edifice will be ready for occupancy early in November. Mrs. R. Brinton and Miss B. Brinâ€" ton â€" are visiting Mrs. Brinton‘s daughter, Mrs. F. Brown, Cochrane. Mrs. F. Bain has been quite ill but i; now on the road to recovery. ‘*‘The Club,"‘ complimented them on the work they were doing. To this Mr. (Geo, Honer made a_ suitable reply. Honer favoured ‘the banqueters with one of his splendid tenor solos, and as a conclusion there was a Playlet without words entitled ‘‘A Spanish Tragedy.‘"‘ Miss Marshall repreâ€" sented the Spanish Cavalier. Miss Vesta Snyder his daughter, and Miss Snyder the‘ Spanish lover.
