A letter was received from Mr. L. Halperin, pointing out that he believâ€" ed the hdlding of auction gales after closing hours was a breach . of the early closing byâ€"law in the letter, as it assuredly was in the spirit of the law. He â€" suggested that if this breach of the byâ€"law were to go withâ€" out objection, the auetion sale plan of keeping open after early closing hours would be adopted by many lines of business and all that had been so hardly won in the way of fair hours for the stores would accordingâ€" ly be lost. . Mr. Halperin said that he, felt sure the Council and officials were anxious to deal fairly with all, withâ€" out discriminating against any, ang he suggested that if legal requireâ€" ments and precedents were considerâ€" ed it would be possible to give such support that the breach of the early closing regulation would be stopped. A petition was before Council askâ€" ing for the repeal of the amendment made to the byâ€"law at the last meetâ€" ing of Council, whereby a twentyâ€" minute parking regulation was to be enforceed in regard to the block . on Third Avenue from Cedar to Balsam Street. At the last meeting Mr. Essa had submitted a petition signed, , he said by all but three of the proper ties concerned. The â€"Council had granted the petition. . The _ new petition at this meeting was supportâ€" ed by Messrs. Dalton, P. Bardesono and L. Mascioli, who pointed out that the original petition had been signed by many who did not know all it would entail. Also many of those signing the first petition were only tenants without abiding interest in the town. The present petition was signed by 12 out of the 16 property owners in the block, and the twelve â€"were agreed that they did not want any parking byâ€"law. They beljeved a Counter Petition in Matter ‘ of Parking on Third Avenue Property Owners Tell Council No Parking Byâ€"law is Desired Between Cedar and Balsam. Councillor Charlebois called attenâ€" tion to the bad condition of the crossâ€" ing on Pine Street over Second Ave. Immediate attention is to be given to this.
