COCHAANE FAIR PROVES VALUE OF NORTH LAND Fine Exhibits of Agriculturs Proâ€" ducts and Stock at Cochrane Last W eek. The development of agrieulture and stockâ€"raising in the North Land was proven by the fine exhibits at Cochâ€" rane Fair on Thursday last. Despite unfavourable weather the attendance at the Fair was large and all were very favourably impressed with the exhibits. The judges, who were from Southern Ontario, were complimenâ€" tary> regarding the quality and quantity of the exhibits. .On account of the meeting of the Northeru Ontario Associated Boards of Trade at Cochrane, there were many . from outside towns at the Fair and all were much interested. The exhhits in vegetables, roots, poultry, . Worses, m w cattle and other stock were ly creditable, while the sh grains was particularly n The trails of speed of great interest there being a num Cochrane has a large and prog sive farming section adjacent to town and this fact contributed to success and extent of the Fair. delegates to the Associated Bo: meeting were taken for a d through this farming section were greatly impressed with the n ber of fine farms viewed. The THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMIN®S, ONTARIO through (Glackmeyer Townshp gave a view of farm after farm, wellâ€" cultivated and apparently successful, with good land and good buildings. Among the interested visitors to Cochrane Fair last Thursday was Mr. C. V. Gallagher, Reeve of Tisdale Township, and Liberal Candidate in the coming Dominion Election. It may be noted that the art and domestic arts at Cochrane Fair were outstanding and specially ereditable. Special note should be made of the clever piece of clayâ€"moulding by aA little school girl. This was a very talented piece of work and visitors were generally sorry that the girl‘s name was not given so that all mwht at least know the name of the glfted seulptor. A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE D. W. O‘SULLIVAN OF TIMMINS HARVEST THANGSGIVING SERVICES AT ST. MATTHEW‘S St. Matthew‘s Anglican iChurch, Timmins, will hold its annual Harvest Thanksgiving Services on Sunday, Sept. 27th, with special sermons, special music and other special feaâ€" tures. There is always special inâ€" terest and inspiration. in the Harvest Thanksgiving Services at St. Matâ€" thew‘s and each year the attendance is large. In an editorial article last week The North Bay Nugget pays the folâ€" lowing merited tribute to the late D. W. Q‘Sullivan :â€" ‘‘In the tragic death of the late D. W. O‘Sullivan, the whole North Country has lost a man whose place will be hard to fill. It is not only as a lawyer that his loss will be felt, but in other organizations that have beâ€" come a big part of the North. Sportâ€" ing circles owe considerable to him for he took an active part in most of them. The fact that the Timmins Curlingâ€" Club is mow. an (active, healthy organization is due in no small measure to the work he did to help it along. He early réalized the prospects of the North, though born in Southern Ontario, and soon after his graduation from Osgoode Hall in 1912, he came North. His ments as a lawyer soon brought him into proâ€" minence and he was appointed soliciâ€" tor for Timmins and for the Hollinâ€" ger. At his death the firm which he organized was one of the outstanding legal firms of the North." BURGLAR APPARENTLY SEEKING FOR MORPHINE. * During the past few days there were two burglaries reported to the police and in both cases it would apâ€" pear that the burglar was seeking morphine or similar drugs, rather than _ valuables of other kinds. Saturday evening or Sunday morning entry was made into the Moneta Pharmacy, and though some cash and one or two other little things were take the chief item was the theft of some morphine tablets and other drugs. The store also looked as if it had been hurriedly searched. On Sunday night or early Monday morning the Dr. Taylor office in the Marshallâ€"Ecclestone block was burâ€" elarized and some drugs stolen thereâ€" from. The heavy glass in the door was smashed, apparently with an axe. Just how this was done without wakâ€" inz some of the tenants of the buildâ€" Originality sometimes means just a new set of listeners. ing is a mystery. The police are working on the cases and special effort is being made to secure the arrest of the burglar resâ€" ponsible for these particularly unâ€" desirable thefts.
