The New Liskeard Speaker last week says :â€" * Mr. MeFarlane has just completed his annual tour of the school childâ€" ren‘s gardens, this year anrounting to 340, a numhel in itself speaking volâ€" umes. But it is not altogether quanâ€" tity. _ Mr. MeFarlane is enthusiastic over the quality of the many fine plots, a large pereentage of the whole, and reports great interest and inâ€" dustry among a host of youthful garâ€" deners in New Liskeard. This branch of the School Fair work has grown to noticeable proportions and the President of the Fair Board who has so many other duties at this time of the year, especially, has himself unâ€" arded performed the difficult task of inspecting, grading, marketing _ and judging the whole 340 rr.u'dens a task in itself surely worthy of more than passing notice.‘‘ ‘*‘Both the Timmins band and the Falls band, one at each end of the rink played. In fact it was a first class band concert which was enjoyed by every one. The local band is a popular favourite and rightfuliy so, but it was the first opportunity for many to hear the Timmins band and they very much appreciated the excelâ€" lent performance that was given There is no question that they have some splendid individual musicians among them and the band as a whole would rank high at anv competition." INSPECTED THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY SCHOOL GARDENS Smith‘s Rodeo and Stampede drew large crowds at Sudbury last week and the show pleased the crowds, acâ€" cording to The Star. During the Labour Day event at Iroquois Falls many pleasing comâ€" ments were made in regard to the playing of the Timmins Citizens‘ Band which organization had hbeen engaged for the occeasion to â€" assist the Iroquois Falls Band in providing music. Mr. E. Stover, President of the Iroquois Falls Band, and a musiâ€" cran of long experience and outstandâ€" ing talent, and the Bandmaster, Mr. E. MceGrath, were specially generous in praise of the visiting band. Last week‘s Broke Hustler also had a speâ€" crial reference, the Iroquois Falls paper saying :â€" The Singing Competition will be for Junior Choir singing in twoâ€"part harâ€" mony. competition to be open to all school or other Junior Choirs, of sixteen years or under, in the disâ€" trict north of North Bay, Choirs to consist of not more than sixty vorces or fewer than ten. â€" It is understood that this feature will take the same form as obtains at most competitions POULTRY ASSOCIATION TO MEET FRIDAY, SEPT 25 A meeting of the Poreupine Poulâ€" try Pet Stock Association is called for Friday evening of next week, Sept. 25th, in the Council© Chantber, Fourth Avenua, Tummins, commencing at 8 p.m. This meeting will take up a number of important questions, and a large attendance of those interested is desired..
