Macâ€" Donald, former player on the Beaconsâ€" field. links, and this year a member of the Timmins club is the winner of the oldest of the trophies for compeâ€" tition by local golfers. Over the weekâ€"end MacDonald defeated Mr. J. Bacon, one of the veterans of the Timmins Club in the 36â€"hole match play competition by a seore of seven up and five to go. The first eighteen holes was as good a performance of golf as anyone could wish for. The weather was fine for the game, hardly any wind, and warm sunshine, both players turning in a seore of 78. and leaving the results of the second match to decide the possession of the (GolIf. Club Trophy. With the weathâ€" er not so good for golf, and a eutting northâ€"east wind, the second round was not so good, though when defeated at of the thirteenth green, Mr. Bacon‘s sceore by strokes stood at 58, with the last hole unfinished, while Mr. MacDonald had the same score, playing the thirteenth green. On Thursday afternoon, in the semiâ€"finals Mr. C. G,, Williams â€" and Mr. MacDonald met in a hard battle, a second round of eighteen hcles played on Friday afternoon hbeing necessary before Mr. Williams was eliminated thereby giving Mr. Macâ€" Donald the right to enter the finals. Even when down six holes, Mr. Bacon played a steady game, and had it not been for the hard luck on the thirâ€" teenth fairway, when he sliced his ball out of bounds, the game may have gone on. But Mr. MacDonald‘s victory is a popular one; his playing during the finals deserved a win, and though it was spectacular work on the greens which finally assured him the possession of the Golf Club Trophy, careful approaches assisted bim. MacDonald won. 16th Greenâ€"Both drove unto the green, Bacon sinking his ball with two puts, and winning the hole. 18th Greenâ€"Both players had fine drives, Bacon getting the better apâ€" proach, but MaceDonald had a better put, both holing out for a par four. 6th (Greenâ€"MacDonald drove over two hundred yards straight down the fairway. Bacon got 200 yards. in a low straight one, getting on the green with a nice brassie shot. MacDonald mashied up to the edge of the green, and approached to five feet off eup. Bacon made a nice long put, laying about the same distance from the pin as MacDonald, but took two more puts. MacDonald went down for a par four.
