THE PORCUPMNE ADVANGE Office 26. UNEMPLOYED FROM OUTSIDE HAVE BURDENED TIMMINS. At the Town Council meeting on Monday the Mayor, Dr. Melnnis, sugâ€" gested that the sort of publicity that Timmins needed at present was the kind that would warn unemployed and penniless people from elsewhere from crowding into this town and adding to the burdens of relief and charity already borne by the wellâ€"taxed rateâ€" payers of this community. For the past couple of years this is the kind of warning publicity that The Adâ€" vance has been trying to give. â€" The Advance has been ‘persistent and inâ€" sistent in pointing out that the laâ€" bour supply in Timmins exceeds the demard, and that men injure their own chancees and injure the town‘s chances by crowding in here. It was only last week that The Advance pointed out for the twentieth time that ‘‘the need of this country at the present time is capital to develop its resourees. With this capital, work and wealth would be created and those here already, and perhaps others to come can be properly looked after."‘ Last week The North Bay Nugget in a thoughtful editorial article adds to this reasonable warning type of publicity. _ The Nugget quotes The Advance, and gives service to this town by assisting in making the facts known. But there is one point on which The Nugget is mistaken. The Nusget says :â€"‘*Construction work slackened. Men were thrown out of work, some of whom had only partial payments made on a house or car. The business firms with which they were dealing found collections diffiâ€" cult. Some firms were foreed to go out of business. More people were This is the usual way in which towns reach the situation facing Timâ€" mins. But it was not the case here. The fact is that here after the town had prepared itself for the necessery adjustments, literally thousands of people from all over the country crowded into town. It was not a case of people in the town being thrown out of work. It was a case of peoâ€" ple out of work being thrown into the town. Thanks to the various works in progress and to expansion at some of the mines, some of the influx of labour was taken care of, but so many came in that no town this size could absorb so great a surplus. Timmins has too many unemployed for a town this size. â€" Timmins has been paying at the rate of $1200.00 per month for charity and relief. It is a burden that no town could bear and prosper. It is a condition that could not hbe guarded agzainst. The unemployed and penniless from all over the counâ€" try have caused the present difficulty. Perhaps, Timmins has not suffered much more than many other towns on the continent in the matter of unâ€" employed, but this town‘s trouble has been with the unemployed pouring in here from other towns. WEDNESDAY, JULY 29th, 1925. thrown out of employment‘‘ The remedy is for the rest of the country to remember that the labour supply in Timmins exceeds the deâ€" mand, and that what this country needs is capital to develop its resources With that capital this country will not only look after its unemployed but will soon give employment and prosperity to others. FAIR CROPS OF BERRIES IN DISTRICT THIS YEAR Member of the Canadian Weekly Newspapers Association. Both blueberries and â€" raspberries promise a fair erop in this district this year. The blueberries on the high sandy land are ripe now, but on the lower land are not yet ready for the nickers. The raspberries are not yet ready but with dry weather will be a good crop. With continued rain they will, of course, be poor in quality, being too‘‘ squashy,"‘‘ as one settler phrased it. There have been many from Timmins out picking blue berries this year, but though some good ‘‘catches‘‘ have been made, the erop is not ready yet. The weather to date has held back the proper ripâ€" ening of the raspberries. Raspberries and blueberries are the main fruits of this section so far and it is hoped aeâ€" cordingly that the weather will beâ€" have so that the district may harvest its fruit erop to advantage. Sharp was havyâ€" ing a busy time in the Dome goal but he was very safe. Miner got away on the left and centered to Douglas who shot over. Then well placed midfield play followed for a while; then Wallace centred to Robson who headed the second â€" goal for Schuâ€" macher. The Dome played hard to get on level téerms but the home team were now playing good football and Hitt seored the third goal, Sharp havyâ€" ing no chance to save. It was now a hard and fast game; the Dome were all out. Harrower got his forwards going and Walker put over to the left _ to Miner who scored the Dome‘s second goal. _ The visitors played hard to share the points but the home team held out and a fine game ended in a victory for Schumacher hy 3 goals to 2.
