And Ko One Injured. THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO In the evening there was further rain and electrical storm. Very vivid flashes of lightning occurred and there was â€" congiderable thunder. _ Wires were blown down, and the electric lights were out of commission three or four times for short periods. ‘The sparling of a broken high tension wire near the R. C. church attracted much attention. As.the wind would blow, the two wireâ€"ends would touch making a very noticeable spark. There was fear that these wires might down and possibly strike gome passerby.. The Power Co. was notiâ€" fied and had the break remedied in very prompt fashion. > o 4y ® 3 Two houses in the Hollinger townâ€" sife were also touched by lightning on Wednesday. _ One house had all the fuse plugs blown, but no other damage done. _ The house nc\ door also was touched, the lightning runâ€" ning down chimney and stove pipes. The stove pipes were knocked about the room and the stove was skidded out of place. The storm on Wednesday last reâ€" sulted in some ‘‘cerossing of wires‘‘ with the result that the fire alarm bell struck one several times during the afternoon, keeping on occeasional strokes until theâ€"crossed wires were located and the trouble removed. #4, 8 )4 2 MA, 4. 4 .woowoowoouoomoonoonoonoonoonoonoonoonoouoouoouzuoono.ooonoouoowoooooooo 26 46 44 44 44 04 94 98. 08 09 0 us tss ns * s * les‘es «4 o4 w4 24 *4 4444 ‘s" *« n e “oomoonoonznznoonoooooooon‘noouoomoomoou. 44 44 #4 AuuAa No/ vio! \in! Writing from the Dominion E xperi mental Farm at Kapuskasing, Ont. Mr. Smith Ballantyne, bupermten dent A ton of good hay is equal to two tons of inferior quality or spoiled hay. Now that the haying season is apâ€" proaching it is well to remember this, as the climate of Northern Ontario is uncertain. ~In going over several disâ€" tricts during the past tiwo years it was indeed a sorry sight to see hundreds of tons of hay rotting in the fields, the greater part of which could have been saved had a smaller yield, been taken while the weather was good, as it generally is during the month of July. It is true that the hay crop is not always ready in July and this 71 «s x in Where stacking is resorted to it is necessary to have all the hay cocked to allow of the stack being completed and properly topped off without deâ€" lay, avoiding if at all possible, wet weather when stacking. We would recommend â€" harvesting a _ smaller quantity of good hay rather than a large quantity of inferior qua ity. DETECTIVES TO CATCH THOSE DEFACING SIGNS. There has been so much vandalism in regard to road and other signs in the vicinity of North Bay that the North Bay Motor Club has engaged detectives to work on the securing of some of those guilty. The intention is to make an example of the criminal fools or foolish ~ceriminals wantonly and senselessly destroying the signs. Stones and dirt have been thrown at the signs so that they were so deâ€" faced as to be useless. In other cases the signs were torn down. A prison term or two might bring proâ€" ‘tection to the public and stop this » * * idiotic form of vandalism. ‘ Tmmins| has suffered in times past from simiâ€" lar imbecile vandalism. â€" Deéstruction at the athletie ground in some years past has been ridieulous as. well as costly. Speed signs in town have also been destroyed or torn down by weak minded fellows who seem to have a mania for this sort of senseless trouâ€" ble. Nearly any town these days would welcome a severe example beâ€" ing made of the destructive pests whose halfâ€"witted actions cause senseâ€" less and harmful destruction of pubâ€" lie property. There will be a general cheer sent up from all over the counâ€" try, if North Bay catches one or two of the miserable vandals and has them down for a few months or a year as a warning to other halfâ€"wits of the same type. wWORMS DESTROYING THE GARDENS IN\THE DISTRICT worms Sept.
