Now there are two ridingsâ€"North and South Temiskaming. _ North Temiskaming Liberals and Conservatives have each held conventions and candidates have been named. The Labour Party has not suggested a candidate to the presâ€" ent and it is not known whether they intend to have a man in the field or not in this riding. The sitting memâ€" ber in the House of Commons for Temiskaming as it has been in previâ€" ous elections is Mr. Angus MeDonald, a Labour Party representative.. THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO In South Temiskaming the Liberals are to hold their convention on August 4th at New Liskeard. Haileybury; D. MeBFachren, Cobalt, and others. It is said that Mac Lang, M.P.P. for Cochrane Riding, has also been mentioned as a possible chorice of the South Temiskaming Liberals for the coming Federal contest. On the Conservative side Mr. John Clark, of Englehart, and Mr. W. A. Gordon, of Haileybury, are both prom inently mentioned. It is understood that on account of his health, Mr. Angus MeDonald will not again be a candldate, and nothing has heen heard as yet as to any nthm man favoured by the Labour Party for the seat. PROTECTING THE PUBLIC AT RAILWAY CROSSINGS. For many months past The Northâ€" ern News of Cobalt has been earrying on a zealous campaign in regard to what it terms ‘‘the Peril at the Gateâ€" way."‘ Every issue of The News for months and months past has earried on editorial utterance urging the T. N. 0. railway to erect a bridge at the Lang Street crossing so as to avoid the very serious present danger of accident and death to the general travelling public using conveyances on the public highway. Speaking of this campaign one man last week said :â€" News has been carrying on its campaign now for months. But what is the good of it? Nothing is done!"‘ If newspapers were as easily disâ€" couraged as that there would be a lot less won for the public. Eventuallyâ€" eventuallyâ€"the right wins. If The News feels its cause just, it should (and no doubt will) keep on hammerâ€" ing away until success is won. _ And there is another point to be considered. Even were nothing ever done in the way of building a bridge or installing a mechanical alarm sysâ€" tem,The News could still truly feel that it had accomplished much in the saving of life and the avoiding of accident. â€" There is no doubt at all but that by persistent calling of attenâ€" tion to the danger at the Lang Street erossing. The News has stirred its readers to a realization of the danger, with the result that auto drivers and others will exereise more care, and so the danger is minimized. The News has wccomplished much already. _ If it keeps on, it will eventually win all it is seeking. The Conservative Convention is to be at Englehart on September 3rd. Among those mentioned â€" as possible Lbeml candidates are J. A. Legms, Haileybury; D.
