Crossing Near South Porcupine Station in Bad Shape. . Other News from South Porcupine Correspondent. Many complaints have been reportâ€" ed lately from the farmers to the south of town regarding the delay in the repfiring of the Shawâ€"Deloro road. Of course the farmers were promised relief in this respect durâ€" ing the coming summer, but apparâ€" ently that is all they received to date, the bare promise, which is not very encouraging to the settlers, who have to date done more than their share towards opening up this seeâ€" tion of the country. Why the government is holding up this work cannot be understood, especially with regard to the fact that many men are looking for work and plenty of teams are available. Conditions warrant some activity on the part of the government and at onee. The settlers in this section are not getâ€" ting a square deal and we believe they are justified in making several complaints regarding the treatment they have been getting. With a good road through this section, many South Poreupine, June cial to The Advance. families would be taken care of and assured some prospects for the futâ€" ure. Without a doubt the governâ€" ment understands that this section is ideal for farming, otherwise they would never have promised to build a road. We hope the settlers can have the satisfaction at an early date of realizing improvements on the promise. Nothing would please us more than to announce the startâ€" ing of the work on this road, and it is up to the government to do someâ€" thing and do it quick. * Somebody said there would be a foreign drumâ€"major here on the 1st of July to lead the band while on parade. We have been advised that the foreign drumâ€"major is none other than the famous oldâ€"timer, Paddy Gallagher. This is indeed. encouragâ€" ing news, especially to the bandsmen who feel that with Paddy in the lead, the visitors can be assured of some real pep with original comedy from the band generally. SERIES The Town A. strengthened their position in the P.D.F.L. table by deâ€" feating the Holly Recreation 4â€"nil on Thursday evening last. The Holly Recreation Club is comâ€" ing along and is getting down to better football. Their big fault now lies with the wing men. They play out of their posifions too much by getting in to far and not down the field enough, anr the consequence is they have to run out and down to get a pass, and most of the time the ball goes out of touch, or is kicked back up the field again. Their passing is much better; likewise their attack. Collings at back is improving every ma,tch and is a good help to Elrick. The Town A,. plagÂ¥ed as steady as ever. Ritchie replaced Lamble _ on the left wing, this being their only change from previous matches. Hollinger Recreation:â€"Elrick, goal; Thompson and Collings, backs; H. Johnston, Stodden and Young, halfâ€" backs; Bough Youlton, Shaw, Griss and Hamilton, forwards. Town _ A.:â€"A. Cadman, goal; Street and Liddle, F. Cadman and Cooper, halfâ€"backs; Ritchie, Jackson, â€" Adamson, Dunn, and Roberts forwards. f The Town got their first counter in two minutes. Ritchrie getting the ball ran down and passed to Jackson whot tapped the ball to Adamson. Elrick tmed in vain to save the low shot which beat him. The play went to midfield for a time and the Reereâ€" ation did some fine passing but the leather was intercepted and sent back before the wings could get on it. Adamson came in for some _ rushing but, Elrick evaded him in his fine handling of the ball, The Reereâ€" ation made their first raid dangerâ€" ous, with combination and Cadman had to fist out a nice shot. The leather away again, Adamson passing to Jackson, who looked _ offside. The referee thought otherwise ‘ and Jackson seored. This caused a specâ€" tator to holler and the reâ€" feree promptly warned this man, and it would be a whole lot better if the referees would be more strict with the spectators, although there have been a lot bad decisions which rouse the spectators‘ ire.‘ The Town now settled down to footâ€" work â€" while the Recreation â€" took every opportunity to press and the spectators helped ‘them on, and for| a time had a lot of the play in the Town‘s area. Cadman fisted nice shots clear and relief came wher | a corner kick was sent over. ‘The rest of the half was finished in the Recreation‘s half. Half time 2â€"0. The second half was mostly the Town‘s game. There were two goals seored, Jackson getting â€" both;â€"the first by heading in a free kick, and the other by heading in Roberts‘ pass. Elrieck was handicapped this half, by injuring his right hand in the latter part of the first half, but he continued to fool Adamson in his rushes in goal. Cooper and Roberts did some fine footwork during this half and showed how simple it was done. Street intercepted a pass and headed the ball three parts the way down the field before the ball finally touched the ground.. Ritchie sent the ball to Dunn who made a neat shot but Elrick saved and sent the ball away. The Ree. made a raid and finished with the ball stricking the crossbar. Mr. Jardine, refereec.
