At New Liskeard Police Court last week two men were sent to jail for seven days each for being drunk while in charge of an auto. In addition one of them had to pay $100.00 damages for injury caused to Miss LeHeup‘s car in a collision. THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO ANNUAL MEETING DF THE TEMIRKAMING W. M. 5. Interesting Address by Miss E. M. Quick, of Timmins. The press report of the recent anâ€" nual meeting of the Women‘s Misâ€" sionary Society of Temiskaming Presâ€" bytery is as follows :â€"â€" The thirteenth annual meeting of the Women‘s Missionary Society of Temiskaming Presbyterial was held in the Presbyterian Church at Englehart on Thursday, May 28th. .The Presiâ€" dent, Mrs. H. MceKnight of New Lisâ€" keard presided at both afternoon and evening sessions. Mrs, James Paterâ€" son, on behalf of the Englehart auxâ€" iliary, most warmly welcomed _ the delegates, saying that for them this meeting represented a dream come true, as they had long desired the privilege of having the Presbyterial meet at Englehart. The reports of the various departâ€" ments of the Presbyterial were preâ€" sented at the afternoon session, all of which showed activity and progress. The report of the corresponding secâ€" retary showed an increase in auxiliarâ€" ies, in mission bands, in the number of members and in the amount of money contributed. The amount contri buted by the auxiliaries, was $629 by the mission bands $613 by home helpâ€" ers $73, making the splendid total of $1315. Aside from this the supply department reported bales of elothâ€" ing and useful articles to the value of over $300. sent to an Indian Reserve in the West. Miss E. M. Quick, the, W. M. S. Deaconess located in the Timmins district, gave a most interesting adâ€" dress, telling of her work since comâ€" ing to this field in January last. Miss Quick also told much of her experiâ€" ence dwring over three years on a mission field in Southern Saskatcheâ€" wan. â€" Mrs. D. P. McQueen, of Edmonâ€" ton, addressed the meeting on scehool homes and hospitals in the West. Miss Janet Alp of Thornloe, condueâ€" ted the devotional exereises at the evening session, and Rev. Dr. D. G. McQueen, of Edmonton, gave the adâ€" dress. Dr. MceQueen and Mrs. Meâ€" Queen are pioneers in mission â€" work, having been thirtyâ€"eight years in the Edmonton field. During the afterâ€" noon presentations were made to Mrs. McKnight and Mrs. Paterson for their long and faithful services in the work of the Presbyterial. Circulars were sent last week throughout the Dominion by the Ontario Provincial Police offering a reward of $500.00 for information that will lead to the arrest and conâ€" viction of J. Herve Joanis, who it is believed (according to the cireular) murdered one Petrus Vangheluwe at Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario, on or about the l1th day of April, 1925. Vangheluwe was battered and smashâ€" ed with an axe, and $100.00 thought to be in his possession prior to the murder was missing. The cirecular gives the following desâ€" cription of Joanis :â€" Age, about 26; height, about 8 feet 9 inches; medium build; fresh round face, clear nose; dark blue eyes, dark pompadour hair; walks erect. When last seen was wearing dark coat and cape, greyâ€" ish sweater, drabâ€"coloured breeches, khaki shirt size 15%, McKenzie brand,, white elk boots 12 inch tops size 8, D. A. Johnson make, golf stockings with white checkered tops. Joanis speaks with a French accent, is a native of Rockland, Russell County, Ontario, where his mother still resides. For a time Joanis was employed as a bank clerk, but for the past six years worked as a lumberjack and cookee in the woods and mines of Northern Ontario, and is an mveterâ€" ate gambler. A warrant for the apprehension oi Joanis has been issued. ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS JUNE 24TH 25TH AND 26TH Salaried police officers or constables are not eligible to receive or share in this reward. In the event of more than one perâ€" son claiming to be entitled to share in this reward, said reward will be apâ€" portioned by the Attorneyâ€"General of this Province. Provincial Police in this North Land have been seeking Joanis since the discovery of the murder. He was traced to Ansonville and then to Rouyn, â€" but managed to evade the police. The reward offéred may reâ€" sult in the securing of . information that will lead to his arrest. NEW ICE CREAM FACTORY PLANNED FOR COCHRANE 26th. The Cochrane Post last week says: ‘‘Mr. Eplett of 8. D. Eplett sons, New Liskeard, was in Town this week looking over a site where to erect a branch factory for their ice cream manufacture in Cochrfne, and it is reâ€" ported that he definitely decided to go ahead with the work immediately. Mr. Eplett went East as far as Amos and on his return will have plans drawn: out for the new factory, and call for tenders."" PLANNING EVENTS FOR THE SUMMER FOR THE A.S.D. In the past years the Band Regatta has been a noteworthy summer event much en« joyed by all. The event on July 29th will be bigger and better than ever.
