ONE MAN KILLED ANOTHER BLINDED BY LIGHTNING Last week at Spanish, on the line from Sudbury to the Sault, one man was killed and another blinded for life by lightning. Inâ€" addition _ several head of cattle were detroyed during the severe electrical storm. A man maned Laforce and a companion were employed near the R. C. Boys‘ Indusâ€" trial school, and were driving their teams to shelter when the lightning struck. Laforcee was killed and his companion rendered totally and perâ€" manently blind, according to the doeâ€" tors. A man nearby esceaped injury. Uuder order of the Master in Chambers, $200,000 was paid out _ of court last week on the settlement of the action brought by the Poreupine Davidson Gold Mines, Ltd., a‘gainst L. H. Sutherland and R. E. Evans. Unâ€" der the settlement the action is disâ€" missed, and $25,000 goes to Mr. Sutherland while the balance goes to the company. The action arose following a change of officers of the company at a specâ€" ial meeting held last September. Mr. Sutherland was formerly managing director and Mr. Evans was secretaryâ€" treasurer. After the change in offiâ€" cers the new officers called upon Sutherland and Evans to deliver the books and property of the company. This was refused. The sum of $200,000 in Dominion of Canada Victory bonds was in possesâ€" sion of the former officers, and was deposited in the Standard Bank. The bank was originally named as a deâ€" fendant to the action, but the action as against it was dismissed upon the ma\ment into court of the $200,000. There will be general sympathy with Rev. G. N. Simmons, pastor of the New Liskeard Baptnst chureh, who is well known in Timmins, in the reâ€" cent death of his mother at Courtland Ont. His mother had reached the ereat age of 92 vears and 7 months. CONTRACT LET FPOR NEW BAND STAND NEAR DEPOT Last week the contract was let for the erection of a new band stand on the park lot on Spruce Street near the station. The contract for the work was awarded to Hillâ€"Clarkâ€"Franas, who were the lowest tenderers, and who can always be depended upon to do good work without any delay. The work is to be started at onee and rushed to completion. As soon as possible the date of the opening band concert for the summer will be anâ€" nounced. It is intended to have an extra special programme for this first open air band concent, so music dovers will do well to watch for further an nouncement as to the exact date. This date will be published as soon as it is known when the new band stand will be ready for use.
