Hydroplane Flights Feature at South Porcupine July 1st South iPorecupine has an enviable reputation for thoroughness and efiiâ€" ciency in anything undertaken, and so the Annual Tourament and Field Day of the Temiskaming Firemen, to be held this year at South Poreupine on July ist, may be confidently exâ€" pected to even excel the previous days put on by the Firemen. South Poreupine has taken up the big day with a will, and the preliminary anâ€" nouncement of the day‘s programme is certainly attractive. In addition to the usual Firemen‘s Tournament in which all the fire brigades of this part of the North Land will take part, there will be field‘ sports, athletics, aquatic sports, hydroplane exhibition, aerial fireworks _ display, dancing (round and square dances), etc. â€"The hydropfane exhibitions will be a specially interesting feature. ‘There will be a demonstration of all the McNamara Bros. started this week on the work of construction of the oadway to the Riverâ€"Wilson Avenue. This is part of the highway ~from South Poreupine, and as such the (Government was naturally expected to pay part of the cost. The Government agreed to this, and will pay 50 per cent. of the cost of this strip of roadway, the rest of the exâ€" pense to be borne by the Town. At the Council meeting last week a resolution was passed to proceed with the work as soon as the Governâ€" ment officially agreed to the 50â€"50 plan. Hon. Mr. Lyons had viewed the road while on a visit ‘here last year and had practically agreed to the plan suggested by the Town. Last week the agreement was confirmed ‘by Hon. Mr. Lyons and the work will be proâ€" ceeded with and rushed to completion. 17â€"foot Road, 16â€"foot Top, Asphalt Penetration. Government to Pay Half the Cost. Other Court Cases Thursday. FINED $500,00 AND GO5TS FOR MUGH 100 MUCH WiNE At police court on Thursday F. Patchinna was fined $500.00 and costs for breach of the Ontario Temâ€" perance Act. Patchinna‘s house in ths Bartleman Townsite was searched by the Provincial and Township Polâ€" ice and ten barrels of wine found, according to the evidence. _ There seemed also to be some homeâ€"brew kind of alcohol on the premises, Acâ€" cording to the evidence given by one of the neighbours the place seemed to be visited frequently.by bunches of men. â€" Also, this evidence suggested that men went in sober and out otherâ€" wise. Patchinna and some of hs friends gave evidence not only conâ€" tradicting some of the evidence of the prosucution but also contradictâ€" ing what appeared to the magistrate as‘ the facts of the caase. After the evidence was in, Magistrate Atkinson imposed the fine of $500.00 and costs. After a preliminary hearing, J. E. Garrett was committed for trial on charges of illegalities connected with gold ore. The case against T. Bodiâ€" nuk, in connection with the highâ€" grading charges, was remanded for a week. P. Kryshtolowuk and J. Gireâ€" goris, on highâ€"grade charges, were each fined $200.00 and costs. Mr. W. A. Gordon, of Haileybury, appeared for J. E. Garrett and some of the others charged with highâ€"grading. Crown Attorney Greer, of Cochrane, acted for the prosecution. On a charge of being found in a disorderly house Tony Jurnto pleaded guilty and was fined $20.00 and costs. He was one . of the men found at the Prince of Wales Hotel last week when the police raided a couple of the rooms there where immoral traffice was alleged to be in progress. Four drunks paid $10.00 and costs each. One extra special drunk conâ€" tributed $30.00 and costs. Two merchants for violation of the early closing byâ€"law wére assesed $5.00 and costs each. \Plans are under way to establish an hospital at Kirkland Lake. A board of directors has been elected and these directors were authorized to go ahead with ghe erection of the buildâ€" ing at the earliest possible moment. Mr. Harry Oakes has offered an excelâ€" lent site, and the Township of Teck will issue debentures for $15,000.00 for the new hospital. \ Two men on disorderly charges were taxed $10.00 and costs.
