A large crowd of supporters turned out for the play, ‘‘The High School Freshman,‘‘ which was presented at the Majestic Theatre on Thursday of last week, in aid of the South Poreuâ€" pine Tuxis Square. The play was a farce comedy in three acts and proved much better than was anticipated acâ€" according to authoritative eriticisms. Those among the cast were Roy Sharpe, Blair Campbell, Kenneth Macâ€" Dougall, Maurice Bucovetsky, Eric Donaldson, John Gibbons, Ulysses Levinson, Art. Devine, Johnnie Gaze, Walter Boyle, Steve Burns,, Act 1â€" The Accusation; Act 2.â€"The Exonerâ€" ation; Act 3.â€"The Football Game. The boys are to be complimented equally with their good work in putâ€" ting the show over in a most harmonâ€" ious manner, and critics on all sides pronounced the play as perfect and a treat that was surely enjoyed by everyone present. Many of the residents were surâ€" prised on Tuesday last when our popâ€" ular James McGuire arrived back in town accompanied by his bride, forâ€" merly Miss Annie Laberge, of Sturâ€" geon â€" Falls. The marriage _ was solemnized at Sturgeon Falls on Tuesday morning, April 14th. About twenty friends were at the station to meet the happy couple and chaperâ€" oned them to Mr. Sky‘s residence where they enjoyed a most pleasant luncheon and nmusic, thus detaining the anxiousâ€"looking couple until about 200 a.m., when the merry making ceased and the heartiest congratulaâ€" tions offered Bby a host of friends. Other friends who were not present wish to join us in wishing the happy bride and groom, good health, prosâ€" perity and longevity. The Poreupine Goldfields Band are holding a Band Concert in the Maple Leaf Theatre, Schumacher, on Sunâ€" day evening, May 3rd, after church services. Another Concett will be held at the Majestic Theatre, South Porceupine, on May 10th. The local Radio fans have been complaining lately about the extra amount of static that is in evidence during the evening concerts and the trouble has unanimously been agleed upon as being created by someone in town who is apparently trying to send messages to his friends with machines. This practice is against the law and while the offenders are probably not aware of this fact, it would be well for them to take heed, and discontinue the practice of demoralizing pleasant radio concerts which others are anxious to hear. We would suggest that the parties involved have an orâ€" dinary private telephone installed, so they can be able to use it to their hearts content, without torture to inâ€" nocent parties. The Township is at present working on the summer road (usually known as the back road) getting it in shape for traffic to the Mines and to Timâ€" mins for this year. Many interested parties are comâ€" tinually asking when work will be reâ€" sumed on the Government Highway between South Porcupine and Timâ€" mins. It is to be hoped that the preâ€" sent conditions of good weather etc., will be appreciated more than they have been in the past. It is almost time this road started to look like an asset to have and to hold, and to use. Show a little Pep, Mac. Bros! According toâ€" information everyâ€" thing is shaping up nicely in the preâ€" liminaries on the New Water Works question, and some real action should take place on the installation before many days. Members of the Council are losing no time towards endeavourâ€" ing to complete their plans as soon as possible. Some of the optimistic ones believe that South Poreupine will have good water before good beer. Here‘s hoping the beer will taste as good. At the last Council meeting the question of a Bus parking stand in front of Dalton and Cunningham‘s Livery was considered and approved by the majority. The new stand will be an extra convenience for those travelling, especially in the winter months.
