For Miners Made by oEED THE STUMP LAND FOR 6000 FASTURE 1N Superintendent Ballantyne Shows the Advantages of Plan Outlined. The following excellent article was received by The Advance last week from Mr. J. P. 8. Ballantyne, Superâ€" intendent of the Experimental Stat tion at Kapuskasing, Ontario:â€"â€" Seed the Stump Land for Good Pasture. The seeding of stump land pasture in northern Ontario and northern Que bee, is advantageous for two princeipal reasons. _ First, when the virgin timâ€" ber is removed there will be no vegeâ€" tation of any kind found, due to the dense growth of timber that has covered this country for many years, it is therefore important that pasture areas should be burned over and seedâ€" ed if suitable pasturage is to be obâ€" tained. _ Secondly, when the clover becomes established it will store nitro gen in the soil and when the land is ready to stump after a period of four or five years of pasturing, the soil will produce a good crop of grain which will not be the case if the land is broken directly after the timber is removed. A very small quantity of seed is required to obtain a good stand of exâ€" cellent pasture and as red clover and alsike reâ€"seed themselves in this country the space of time required to obtain luxuriant pasture is indeed short. In sections where the land is wet and mossy alsike and timothy seed only should be used, about three pounds of alsike and three of timothy to the acre will insure a good stand for pasture. Alsike clover will grow on acid soil and do well. THE FPORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO In sections where the land has been burned over and there is a good cover ing of ashes, red clover four pounds, alsike two pounds and timothy two pounds make an excellent mixture. The best time to seed is before the snow goes in the spring and the soil is in a honey combed condition which when it settles covers the seed and insures a good stand. . It is advisable not to pasture the land the first year as it will be found that by allowing Quarterly Statement of Earnings of Mclintyre Mine Official Statement for the Three Quarters of Present Fisâ€" cal Year of the McIntyre Porcupine Mines, Limited, Net Earnings Before Plant Depreciation $175,689.73, More than for Nine Months Ending March 31st, 1924. Below will be found the official stateâ€" ment of quarterly earnings of Meâ€" Intyre Mines, Limited, for hte nine months ending March 31st, 1925. It will be noted that net earnings beâ€" fore plant depreciation total $1,254,â€" 345.72, while for the nine months ending March 31st, 1924, the total net the first crop to decay that the pasâ€" ture area will last for a number of years.
