The Recital by Senior Pupils of the Central Public School, held in the Kindergarten on Wednesday evenâ€" ing last, delighted all attending, and the attendance was large, the rooms being filled to capacity. The Recital impelled remarks such as, ‘‘It is neâ€" markable the amount of decided tai}â€" ent in this town.‘‘ All were as sinâ€" cere as they were free with compliâ€" ments to Miss Sims, Teacher of Musâ€" ic in the Schools, to Principal Day themselves, The programme â€" was and staff, and to the gifted pupils particularly pleasing in its variety and proved that the talent of the pupils is not confined to any one line. Instrumental and vocal music, daneâ€" ing, elocution, choral wonrk,â€"all were particularly well _ rendered. There PLEASING REGITAL BV »PUBLIG 5GHOOL PUPILS Musical and Literary Programme of Unusual Merit Given on Wedâ€" nesday Evening Last. was not an item on the programme that did not delight the audience by its excellence. Every number was felt to be a ‘‘special.‘‘ Dr. (McelInnis, Mayor of Timmins, occupied the chair and added to the intenest of the evening by his wit and humour. He comiplimented teachers and pupils alike on the excellence of the programme and referred to the good fortune of the town in having so much talent. §On. ‘©Come, Thou Almighty King,"‘‘ by Chorus. fOl. Piano solo, by Miss Maible Boumne. Songs, "Little Cock Sparrow,"‘‘ and ‘«Welsh Song,‘‘ jby little Master Cyril Hale. of Peace,‘‘ iby Chorus. ‘‘The Minstrel Boy,"‘ by Chorus. Dance, by Miss @wendolyn Smith. ‘"Summer‘s Gone,‘‘ Chorus, by Miss Everett‘s Class. ‘* Alleluai Song,"‘ by Chorus. ‘‘Border Ballad,‘‘ by Chorus. God Save the King. Space will not permit extended reâ€" ference to each item on the excellent programme, but it is doubtful if any who had the privilege of attending the Recital will feel that justice is done unless all the clever young artists arg individually complimented, for there was not a number that did not merit special note. The choruses were all very attractive, and indicated the talâ€" ent of the pupils concerned and the successful efforts of their teachers. The rendition of ‘‘The Border Balâ€" lad‘‘ was particularly worthy of note. It was a veyy effective number, inâ€" deed. The quartette of young ladies made a decided hit and deserved the pronounced delighted encore received. Miss Betty Patterson delighted all with ‘her gifted work as an elocutionâ€" ist, each of her wellâ€"given â€" numbers being enthusiastically applauded on merit. Miss G@wendolyn â€" Smith‘s dance numbers were specials on the excellent programme. Her grace and skilled power of interpretation made the dance numbers of special interest. The numbers were deservedly encor The pnogramme for the evening was as follows:â€"â€" ‘*Easter Hymun,‘‘ by Chorus. ‘‘Killarney,"‘ by Chorus. Recitation, ‘by Miss Betty Patterâ€" Violin Solo, by Miss Annie Anderâ€" son. THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO Class. Dance, by Miss Gwendolyn Smith. Quartette by Misses Kathleen MceQuarrie, Stephonie Ostroski, Vera Mustato, Emma Ellies. Years,‘‘ by Chorus. Recitation, by Miss Betty Patterâ€" ed. Miss Annie Anderson‘s violin solo was another outstanding numâ€" ber. This young lady showed much talent on the violin and her selecâ€" tion was very wanrmly applauded. Her sister, Miss Cybelle Anderson, played the piano accompaniment. Little Master Cyril Hale made a big hit with his solos. His second numâ€" ber was a Welsh song in the language of that little land. Another musical numben was the piano solo by Miss Mabel Bourne, this gifted pianist winning very pronounced appreciâ€" ation. All attending this Recital will watch with interest for any further similar events, and all will be pleased to know that it is the intention to have a programme by all the pupils of the Public Schools at the Central School grounds (weather permitting) on Empire Day. Haileybury Council was notified last week that there were to be three élaims to be made against. the town for damages. Two of the claunms are through falls on the icy sidewalks and for damages fon injuries sustained the other is for flooding of a store cellar through the breaking of a hyvdrant. There were many matters of importance dealt with, including the question of representation of the various sections at the Convention, and the date of the Convention itself. Eventually it was decided to hold the Convention for the selection of a canâ€" didate for the Federal Election, at Porquis Junetion on Friday, May 1st. At the meeting there was a gereral feeling of optimism and belief that the new Federal Riding will be won to the Liberalâ€"Conservative cause.
